Editorial Submissions


Premier Guitar, a monthly print and web guitar enthusiast publication, welcomes all guitar enthusiasts to share their knowledge through writing, with an emphasis on tone and the high-end gear used to achieve it. Regular columns and articles are devoted to:
  • New gear reviews
  • Technical topics (gear setup, repair, modification, etc.)
  • Vintage gear profiles
  • Lessons
  • Artist profiles/interviews
All submissions are to be well-organized, original works targeted at intermediate to experienced guitarists. Your best articles are likely to be about subjects with which you have had first-hand experience. Please be thorough with technical information, and assume the reader has no knowledge of the topic about which you are writing. Do not hesitate to provide information on specific products, supplies, or equipment, along with a name, website, and telephone number of respective suppliers, if such information is relevant to your article; however, overt or blatant product endorsements will not be allowed. Artist profiles should feature accomplished players and concentrate heavily on the artist's techniques, the artist's gear and his/her tone. No CD reviews will be considered.

Please edit your piece extensively before submission, and consult a writing style guide with any questions (MLA preferred). Pieces submitted with numerous grammatical, syntax and spelling errors will be rejected.

Sidebars and photos
Articles submitted with "sidebars" and high-quality artwork/photos (high resolution, 300 dpi) are most desirable. How-to articles are best accompanied with photos in a series which illustrate the different steps/stages of the process. Any quoted material within an article should be appropriately credited to its original source. Photos which depict people should be submitted with signed model releases by all identifiable persons in the photos. Captions are required with all photos.

Stipends
Unsolicited manuscripts are welcome, yet we prefer that you query Premier Guitar first with your story idea in outline form and if possible, two clips of published or previous work; then wait for approval before writing an article. Premier Guitar reserves the right to edit or reject any material, queried or not.

After placing a query, we may offer to have you write on spec. This means that you write the article without any promise, implied or explicit, that we will buy the article. This practice is mainly reserved for inexperienced writers without past clips. If your completed article is accepted, you will be paid as normal (see below); if your article is not accepted, it will be sent back to you with no further obligation on our part.

Pieces may be published in either the monthly print magazine, or on the Premier Guitar website, at our discretion. Published articles earn a byline and negotiable compensation, varying by length and nature of the piece. Payment for writing/photography is processed after the issue goes to press (approximately the 10th of each month, but this can vary). Unless otherwise stated in writing, payment by Premier Guitar is for all publication rights.
