Useful as a crunch channel for a clean amp or a booster to drive a high gain amp even harder. The secret to the VT-1's realistic tone lies in 3 distinct areas: First, it does not use the standard JRC4558 chip that most overdrives are based around, instead relying on a higher-quality JRC2043 IC. Contrary to popular belief, the 4558 is neither rare nor unique, and there are many higher-grade op amps to choose from that sound superior: Rather than rely on hype, the VT-1 Virtual Tube Overdrive Pedal relies on tone to make its point.While DNA's choice of op amps may be untraditional, their choice in diodes is tried and true. The use of germanium diodes allows the VT-1 to clean up remarkably well by rolling off your instruments volume, and it tracks picking techniques flawlessly.Lastly, the VT-1's tone circuit is a radical departure from the standard overdrive. Rather than rely on a high cut/boost circuit that can rob your instrument of low end, the VT-1's Cut control affects only the ultrahigh frequencies, adding shimmer and sheen to your sound without sacrificing punch and power in the low end. Very closely modeled from my fantastic sounding MK111, a more 'overdrive' feel to the MK111 fuzz but with all the characteristic's that make any great Germanium fuzz, superb clean-up, lovely sustain and real warmth. Lots of fuzz on-tap with a bit of bite. The Tone pot has a really great sweep from thick through to thin and buzzy, lots of interplay between the 2 controls offering masses of useable tones. Used by Jimmy Page amongst others, this is by far the most flexible of the Tone Bender family.
The Williams MK111 Fuzz is handmade in the UK and remains VERY faithful to the original circuit, no tweaks, led's or dc power adapter. At the heart of the MK111 is 3 carefully matched Germanium transistors, these will usually be a mixture of OC72's and an AC125. All the transistors are nos (new old stock) NOT modern copies!
Like all Williams pedals the MK111 FUZZ uses the best quality components selected to be as close the original pedal as possible. The Williams MK111 FUZZ also uses the best quality CLIFF branded stomp switch, and the highest quality Pots and sockets. At the heart of the ASDR is a revolutionary, newly designed compression/sustain amplifier. When the Attack & Decay functions are switched off, the pedal creates a punchy yet smooth compression that allows your instrument to sustain as long as you want. The Attack & Decay functions provide a wide range of swell & fade times & pallet of effects that range from cello & trumpet to tape reverse & toy piano. With short attack & decay settings, the auto reset allows you to create pulsating tremolo & staccato-stutter effects. For lovers of the Boss Slow Gear, Ebow and/or Fernandes Sustainer pickup, this is the ultimate pedal. The Harmonics control, adds a layer of sweet distortion as well as a HIGH-BOOST switch that adds clarity, presence & natural overtones.
