Behold the rare and mythical Keio Singing Geisha Fuzz. The status of this pedal in the world of vintage effects is legendary. The Keio Electronics company is better known by their brand name ? Korg. Most of first series of Korg synthesizers from the early seventies had a filter section they called the ?Traveler,? which features two slide controllers (filter cutoff and resonance). That filter circuit is the main feature of the Singing Geisha, but with a couple of additions. There?s the Fuzz effect, of course. Then there?s a curious feature they call ?singing.? At the risk of demystifying the pedal, the singing isn?t very much like singing at all. It?s really just a variable sine wave oscillator that uses the pedal to vary the pitch. Perhaps this was Keio/Korg?s take on the siren effect of the Shin-ei Surf/Siren/Hurricane pedal. Let?s talk about functionality ? all the knobs (Singing, Fuzz, Traveler, and Peak) are essentially volume controls for those functions. A switch underneath the pedal turns engages the effects, and then you can use the knobs to dial in how much (if any) of each effect you want. The Fuzz switch only works when the switch under the pedal is engaged. So the Traveler and Peak are always on and you have the option of having Fuzz or no Fuzz with it. Honestly, I think this pedal is better suited for bass or keyboards then guitar. It sounds okay, if a bit underwhelming, on the guitar. But it would be great for adding a whole new dimension to monophonic analog synth leads. *This pedal is on consignment from a private collector.
