This is a great example of a Gibson 1958 VOS Heritage Les Paul built to the standards and using the materials of the original late fifties Gibson collectables. An original 1958 Les Paul in just fair condition is demanding hugh sums of money in the collector market today. This one captures the essences of the "Heritage" and will most likely go up in value over time as well.
This guitar has a beautifully figured Maple top finished in a Honey Burst that shows off the Maple wonderfully. This is the guitar that launched thousands of bands. The list is too long to mention. This 1968 Les Paul Standard is a reissue of the famous 1956 goldtop and features a carved maple top, 2 P-90 pickups, Tune-o-matic bridge and stop bar tailpiece. One piece mahogany body has single ply binding on front. Bound rosewood fingerboard. 24 ¾ inch scale. Trapezoid inlay. Pearl “Gibson” logo. Kluson Deluxe tuners with plastic tulip buttons. “C” shape neck. Original rectangled Gibson hardshell case included.
This guitar came into our shop having sat in a closet and not played for 30 years by the 2nd owner who was a bass player. The original owner bought the guitar in 1968 and proceeded to refinish ( the top only ) in cherry sunburst...YUK! The neck, back and headstock are all original. We have the original receipt from the second owner who bought the guitar in 1975 and the finish was Cherry Sunburst then so this guitar had been refinished sometime between 68 and 75. When we got the guitar, it had grovers on it (also from the original owner ) but there were no extra holes drilled so we took the guitar apart and shipped it to Bill Nash who is THE MAN when it comes to doing relics. He stripped the burst off the top and did an amazing relic job in period correct Gold to match the wear on the back and neck. He also aged the new Gibson tuners to match as well. Rumor has it that these 1968 56 reissue guitars were made from left over bodies from the 50s with a one piece body and smaller headstock! The guitar plays great, looks great and has all the vibe you want without the super huge pricetag! Yes it is still expensive but the way things are going with old LPs ... it will surely go up as well!
