Jimmy D'Aquisto was the last and most celebrated apprentice to the legendary John D'Angelico. In an abbreviated career of just three decades, D'Aquisto created a peerless body of work, instruments that are now the most costly and sought after archtops ever made. Working in collaboration with Fender Musical Instruments, he also created a legendary series of archtop classics, of which this model, the Ultra, was the very pinnacle.
Introduced in 1994, the D'Aquisto Ultra was built entirely by hand in the US Custom Shop under Jimmy's direct supervision, and was his last major project before his untimely demise in 1995. The top is hand-graduated by luthier Steve Stern from Appalachian red spruce, famed tonewood of prewar Martins, and shows characteristic 'bearclaw' figure. The back, sides and neck are crafted of tiger flame maple of exceptional depth and intensity. The tapered bridge foot, deco inlay and modernistic f-holes are all D'Aquisto signature designs, as well as the curvilinear ebon more information »

In the mid-70's, virtuoso George Benson had a vision of the cutting edge features a jazz guitar needed to survive in the new world of amplification Ñand the durability it would need to survive on the road (which his expensive traditional boxes were having a tough time doing). Twenty-five years later, this modern jazz classic is our longest running signature model.

BOOK: "How To Play Chordal Bebop Lines, For Guitar". Published in 2005. THIS BOOK HAS BEEN RECEIVING RAVE REVIEWS!!! This is not a book of transcribed solos....it is a method book for the development of an improvisational style where you can play bebop lines in chords.....like Wes did. The cover says: "A guide for developing a chordal vocabulary for improvisation. Written with the styles of Wes Montgomery, Cal Collins, and Barney Kessel in mind". In the introduction, the author makes the following comment....."There are many books which deal with chord forms, comping, and chord-melody playing, but these do not provide a vocabulary for the kind of harmonized soloing that Wes and others have done. In "How to Play Chordal Bebop Lines" the goal is to develop a vocabulary for improvising in lines of chords." Table of contents reflects chapters dealing with commonly used voicings, chord scales, and inversions of many types of chords, leading to section 2 of the book which is actual phrases and patterns in chords....(much like Jerry Coker's Patterns for jazz, only the lines are in chords, for guitar.) Melodic lines, in chords, are written with a melody line and a fret diagram underneath each melody note. Poor readers can beneftit greatly from this style of writing. Book is 80 pages in length with nice spiral binding. This text is a must for the student who is exploring chordal improvisation in the Wes style. Shipping adds 3.95 to continental USA for first class. All international airmail orders: add 15.00 for Global Priority. Pay by Paypal or Money order. more information »
