Book of transcribed Wes Montgomery solos, published in 2000. (Edited by John Alexander. Coastal Publishing.) An excellent professional quality resource for study of the master's style. The book, with nice spiral binding, contains the following transcribed solos: Besame Mucho, Dangerous, Yesterdays, No Blues, James and Wes, Fried Pies, and If I Should Lose You. Solos are captured in their entirety, notes to octaves to chords. There is an analysis of each solo which illustrates the favored licks and devices used by Wes. This is a great way to study his vocabulary and incorporate much of his concept into your own playing. Technical level and reading skill are in the medium difficulty range. NO TAB. I make archtop and other types of pickguards for Harmony and most archtop jazzboxes plus some Flat top guitars and electrics like Teisco, plus custom pickguards to order.
I have sold thousands on Ebay and now I am offering polished edges, rounded edges on thinner material and a much wider selection of guard materials including 5 ply black/white/black/white/black, 3 ply tortoise, pearloids in about 8 flavors, and the translucent tortoiseshell acrylic that matches the old Cellulose Nitrate guards exactly.
Every guard is made by hand and machine edged and edge polished with a buffing machine.
Some designs are exact replicas and many are my own designs, but all are high quality and made from 1/8 (or slightly thicker material to .90 engraving quality plastic in solid black, white, Les Paul Cream, Parchment and in some matte finishes.
I always include free shipping in USA, a chrome bracket and a dozen picks in each package.
Drilling for holes with countersinking is available at extra charge.

BOOK: "How To Play Chordal Bebop Lines, For Guitar". Published in 2005. THIS BOOK HAS BEEN RECEIVING RAVE REVIEWS!!! This is not a book of transcribed solos....it is a method book for the development of an improvisational style where you can play bebop lines in chords.....like Wes did. The cover says: "A guide for developing a chordal vocabulary for improvisation. Written with the styles of Wes Montgomery, Cal Collins, and Barney Kessel in mind". In the introduction, the author makes the following comment....."There are many books which deal with chord forms, comping, and chord-melody playing, but these do not provide a vocabulary for the kind of harmonized soloing that Wes and others have done. In "How to Play Chordal Bebop Lines" the goal is to develop a vocabulary for improvising in lines of chords." Table of contents reflects chapters dealing with commonly used voicings, chord scales, and inversions of many types of chords, leading to section 2 of the book which is actual phrases and patterns in chords....(much like Jerry Coker's Patterns for jazz, only the lines are in chords, for guitar.) Melodic lines, in chords, are written with a melody line and a fret diagram underneath each melody note. Poor readers can beneftit greatly from this style of writing. Book is 80 pages in length with nice spiral binding. This text is a must for the student who is exploring chordal improvisation in the Wes style.
