Dick Knight Imperial 17'' Electric Archtop.This is an extremely rare electric version of the famed Imperial made by the late Dick Knight,who was maker and repairer of guitars for 50 years.It has a close grained spruce top,fashioned utilising a unique method whereby the parallel braces are carved as part of the top and not added later.The back and sides are formed from solid highly flamed Sycamore which being an incredible tonewood gives the guitar a highly individual acoustic sound.The neck is of an extraordinary 17 piece construction with a 10 piece heel which was Dick Knights signature and whilst being cosmetically exciting also gives the neck immense strength.The neck and headstock inlays are M.O.P and Abalone.The neck relief is perfect and the playing action is very low.The overall condition is 9.5/10.The acoustic sound is great and plugged in the guitar is similar in tone to an L 5,nice and warm,with lots of treble when needed,there is no sign of feedback even at higher volume. UGB30456 Originally released in 1934, the Gibson Super 400 was the top-of-the-line. The instrument was the largest and most ornate model available and the mere mention of it can send a person into the clouds with visions of these beauties. The lower bout measures a whopping 18" across and this Super 400C features a solid spruce top with amazingly tight and straight grain, solid flame maple back and sides, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and pearl split-block inlay, graceful rounded Venetian cutaway, gold hardware inlcuding Kluson Sealfast tuners and engraved trapeze tailpiece, multi-layer binding throughout. This example apparently belonged to a working player as the pickguard has been altered to accommodate a pickup, most likely a Dearmond of some sort. The neck profile is a comfortably rounded "C" that's full but not too chunky. Tone-wise she's warm, rich and complex with a nice punch in the low-mids.
