UGB33931 In 1961 Ted McCarty, Gibson's president at the time, visited legendary jazz guitarist Johnny Smith who had retired to Colorado Springs. They spent a few days together as Smith designed the guitar he wanted built and after a few changes the Gibson Johnny Smith model was born. Although originally outfitted with a neck mounted mini-humbucker, this particular example has been modified with a pair of top-mounted full-size humbuckers with individual volume controls, master tone on the upper bout and 3-way toggle selector switch. Sort of bridging the gap between a Johnny Smith and an L-5 CES, this '67 Gibson Johnny Smith is a great player that wants to be put back to work on the bandstand. With vintage hard shell case.
