SKU: UGB31570 UGB31570 Even though this instrument bears the name of one of the most renowned instrument makers, Marcelino Barbero, it was in fact not made by him. At one time, a rather less than scrupulous distributor in Chicago had the marketing idea of creating labels to put inside guitars that took the names of famous makers and players in order to bolster sales (see the Ramirez "Segovia mode"l also listed here). So it came to pass that these same folks took advantage of the burgeoning Japanese classical makers and had "replica" guitars made by some of the more outstanding makers that bore their special labels. This instrument, most likely made by Shiro Arai (founder of Aria Guitars) is but one of many such guitars. However, despite its somewhat dubious parentage, it is an exceptional instrument. A 40+ year old hand crafted guitar with very fine wood selection. Truly worthy of some of the praise heaped upon the original. The guitar has a wonderful voice, nicely balanced, and is capable of a variety of tones. Definitely worth playing. With hard case.
