When Dennis Casey contacted me about building him a guitar, I have to admit that I didn’t even know who he was and I had never before heard of his band (Mississippi John Hurt and Leadbelly are usually playing in my shop). All I knew was that I had this guy asking me what kind of guitar I considered to be “more primitive”. Clearly, this guy had the right attitude for a cigar box guitar.
He and I discussed several options and finally found something he was happy with (didn’t really take that long – the guy knew exactly what he wanted). I went to work immediately on something that would fit his idea of what a cigar box guitar was supposed to be (more primitive = better) but would still hold up to my standard of playability. I didn’t even find out until after I had finished his guitar that he was kind of a big deal…

Plays fantastic with a great tone - no wonder John & George liked them even back then! Orig. owner says he sent the guitar back to Gibson in the 80s because the pickup wasn't working right. Not sure if they replaced the p'up or just repaired/rewound(?), but it was a warranty issue that Gibson took care of at no charge. Non-orig. hard case included. A slimmer neck shape is featured in the WS1000 beginning in January 2000.
Performance Shape Casting™ is the new process, uniquely suited to graphite instruments, which allows RainSong necks and fret boards to be cast as a single graphite matrix. The “Solitaire” Series uses the same “SBS” bracing system as the “Stage & Studio Series” guitars. The “Solitaire” was designed for the player, not the audience. Rather than a front port to project the sound outward, the “Solitaire” features a port on the top side of the guitar to direct the sound to the player. Since guitar players spend over 90% of the time playing with just themselves and their guitar, the “Solitaire” is the perfect choice for your second guitar. There were some interesting results when the first “Solitaire” samples arrived. Even though the guitars were designed for the player and not the audience, the front sound projection was incredible. Since the soundboard increased in size due to not cutting a hole in the front, it produced more treble, midrange, and overall volume. The sound port on the top of the guitar produced enhanced low range frequencies which could be heard all around the room as low frequencies are omni-directional. In other words, this guitar sounds incredible out front also! When partnered with the AB4-T Preamp system, it makes the perfect guitar for stage, professional recording, and home studio applications. With the “Solitaire’s great playability and tone, it’s the perfect choice for any working musician. (And it also looks really, really cool.)
“SBS” Suspended Bracing System
Many years ago a designer decided that there must be a better way to brace the soundboard of a guitar to allow more vibration and yet keep the strength and stability of the guitar top. It seemed that if the bridge could be secured without using traditional X-type wood bracing, the top would vibrate more freely. This would allow greater sustain, volume, and an overall richer tone.
The “Suspended Bracing System” was developed by Mike Shellhammer in conjunction with Morgan Hill Music in the Silicon Valley. By using less points of contact and less bracing around the bridge area, the guitar top vibrates freely but maintains its strength and stability. more information »

"Guitar Scale Magnets is a "cheat sheet" learning tool for the guitar that allows the player to QUICKLY locate where musical scale shapes begin on your guitar's fretboard. These slap on scale strips are learning tools geared towards beginner and intermediate guitarists and are meant to be used as training wheels to assist players where scale shapes begin.
These products are meant to be utilized alone or in conjunction with music theory and any educational tools available to stimulate the individual's creativity that music offers.
Speaking from my own personal experiences when starting to learn scales and scale shapes, I wished there was a quick way to "just show me where to go" so I could understand where these scale shapes occur on the fretboard and learn at my own pace. I also remembered when I felt I had mastered the A minor pentatonic scale, there was a rhythm jam track that I wanted to play along to that suggested to play the D minor pentatonic scale. I was lost on where to play these scale shapes throughout the fretboard—I felt limited on where I could play and ultimately I found myself not straying too far away from the box shape #1 and its vicinity. This frustration led to the birth of Guitar Scale Magnets. My hope is for wanna-be guitarists to quickly progress to the jam phase. To capture the enthusiasm that is there when you begin to learn the guitar and allow the player to quickly progress, therefore, leading to less burnout or worse abandonment of their interest in the instrument all together when frustration arises."
