This is a masterfully built instrument crafted from exotic tone woods with vintage and modern details. It was originally designed by Bill Asher for Ben Harper in 1998 and inspired by the Weissenborn Hawaiian acoustic lap steel from the 1920's. The Asher lap steel has great low end and high end response, clean or with overdrive-the sustain and acoustic overtones are unbeatable.

ULC30387 Delbert Dickerson began manufacturing guitars in the 1930s, his first steel guitar made for his daughter whose teacher happened to be the incomparable Sol Ho'opi'i. Not long after that, Sol asked Mr. Dickerson to make one for him. Of course once Sol's Hawaiian buddies, Dick McIntire, Sam Koki, Eddie Bush and others saw and heard Sol's Dickerson lap steel and amp they too had to have their own and soon they and many others could be seen playing Dickerson instruments. Although some of the biggest names in the business were playing his guitars, Mr. Dickerson mainly specialized in student models with lower costs so that just about any family could afford to own them. At the height of manufacturing they were producing as many as 200 guitars a week under various company names like the Varsity Guitar And Amplifier, Southern California Music Co. and Bronson Publishing Co.
