The El Trovador is based upon an early 30's National that was actually made for them at that time by the Kay Instrument Co. This model has a completely different body style from National's other models, having a much tighter waist and a 4" depth. The body is all mahogany, laminate top & back and solid sides, with f-holes and scuffed nickel plated ribbed sieve coverplate & tailpiece. The mahogany neck has 1-3/4" width at nut, 25-21/32" scale, dot inlaid ebony fingerboard, slotted headstock, 2-way adjustable truss rod and National shield logo decal. The body and neck are bound. Master luthier Paul Beard and resonator guitar virtuoso Jerry Douglas have collaborated on the design of this great new guitar. Production is limited to 50 instruments, each numbered. The body is a modified Beard E-style of all solid quilted Sapele mahogany, with open body chamber and baffle, all powered by a spider bridge & Beard spun cone, for that now classic open-body resonator guitar sound. Other features include square profile mahogany neck, flame maple bindings, custom design coverplate, dual screened soundholes, ebony fretboard with custom inlay pattern & "Jerry Douglas" signature inlay, Waverly open-gear tuners, chrome plated hardware, custom Douglas crest peghead inlay and deluxe custom archtop-archback hardshell case. The collaboration does not end there. Enter acoustic instrument pickup master Larry Fishman. Working with Beard he has designed a completely new spider bridge pickup which incorporates special elements directly onto the two capped hard maple saddle pieces. Beard has modified the spider to allow for easy installation and adjustment of the saddle inserts. Then Fishman worked with Jerry Douglas to develop the new Fishman Jerry Douglas Aura resonator guitar pedal, which yields a sound more typical of a microphone, without the feedback issue of a microphone.
