1967 Hagstrom 8-String Bass! Signed by Noel Redding! Here is a very cool-looking Hagstrom 8-String Bass, identical to the ones used by Jimi Hendrix and Noel Redding, in cherry finish. Same year, same look, same sound! “Spanish Castle Magic”, anyone? What makes it just a little different from the few out there, is I got Noel Redding to sign this one’s pick guard in silver pen, in 1999, in person, at his home in Ireland, when I was out visiting and buying gear from him (his original Hagstrom was long-since sold at auction by then, as was Jimi’s). So there you go – possibly the only, that is the ONLY, Hagstrom 8-String Bass to bear Noel’s signature, although it was never his bass, and he did NOT play it! Also check out Jimi Hendrix giving his 8-string a funky workout on the “Get That Feeling” New York sessions. Great basses for a power trio, they fill in so much of the space, like having unison guitar/bass riffs! Switches and pots are a little crackly due to not being used, and the two pickups are fine, the back cover of one tuner is missing, but does not affect anything, and the bass is 100% original. Why pay big money for one without Noel’s autograph, when you can pay big money for one WITH his autograph? Would look great in a display case, or on a studio wall! Rocking!! God Bless Noel!! He was a lovely bloke. more information »

Graham Oliver was recording with his band Saxon in Atlanta with Jeff Glixman, the record producer, in the 1980’s. Jeff met someone who had a very rare early Gibson V and told them to fetch it to the studio, which they did a few days later, and Jeff bought it. Graham asked if they ever came across a black Flying V like Hendrix’s with Trini Lopez inlays (not realizing there was only one). The Dealers said they new someone that had a Relic® from a Jimi gig in ‘68 in Atlanta; Graham expressed an interest and about a week later they came with this neck - the head stock was split off below the machine heads where the FENDER® Logo would be, and it was stamped 13 Oct 67, and stamped “demo” on base also - it had traces of car spray paint on it as well, an almost identical lot was sold as lot 103 at Sotheby’s in 87 from the Albert Hall 69. On Graham’s return from the USA, he took the neck to luthier Stuart Palmer, who restored the neck with a piece of maple, and stripped it of paint, and put in heavy frets as a couple were missing; it came out great! In 1985 Saxon employed John Downing (or “Upsy”) - he worked for Jimi, January to August 1969 and is in many photos from that time - John confirmed that FENDER® supplied the Experience with necks marked “demo”. To be sold neck only; as is (restored). Comes with letter from Graham Oliver. 12,000 Britsh Pounds Sterling. more information »

ZEMAITIS ACOUSTIC 6 STRING ORIGINAL UK HAND-MADE Zemaitis 6-string Custom Acoustic Guitar. This beautiful and quite fancy guitar was hand-made by Tony Zemaitis in 1981. It comes with a letter from Tony Zemaitis himself, hand-written, of course, confirming its provenance. Tony has also attached a photo of the guitar to the letter, and stamped the photo with his personal stamp, and signed it! This was to stop future owners attaching the letter to another, different, guitar. This is the best provenance you can have with a Zemaitis guitar. A personal letter guaranteeing that it is the genuine article. Do not confuse with factory-made new guitars. Tony was THE MAN! I bought this guitar in 2001 directly from Tony. He had “reconditioned” it, which really was only a case of cleaning up the hand-applied finish, and re-waxing the body. It still has a slightly amber antique patina, not white or new looking. You can maybe just see that a small pick guard used to be fitted, but since Tony cleaned it up, this has been removed, and the finish hand-polished, again by Tony himself in his workshop. Made of flamed maple, with a spruce top and mahogany neck, the guitar features a fancy “rope”-style purfling around the edge (have not seen another Z like it), and a fancy sound hole rosette. There is a built-in original transducer pickup under the bridge saddle with a jack socket at the side. Unusually, the metal truss rod cover, and the diamond-shaped head ornament, were engraved by Tony himself, rather than Danny O’Brien. The cover says “Dave”, and the diamond has the familiar “Z” logo, but these are engraved BY THE MAKER! This is very rare indeed! The original label is signed and dated 1981. This guitar is similar to others owned by the likes of Ronnie Lane, and Steve Harley. The playability is excellent (show me a Z that doesn’t play good) and the sound is big and quite “dry”. Perfect for using amplified. I am only selling this fantastic, unique instrument, as I do not play it much. more information »

1973 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe that was used on the Quadrophenia tour. Owned and played by Pete Townshend. Numbered "3". There is footage in 1974 of Pete using this guitar on the song "Drowned". Pete broke the headstock and cracked the neck joint in concert during the tour and was repaired with The Who and quite possibly used again by Pete. It still has 5 of the original strings, and the #3 tape residue is still on the guitar. Comes with letters from Pete's tech and road manager and a photo of Pete playing this guitar live at the Charlton Football Club 1974. Please inquire for price. These early Who guitars have rocketed up in a few years, don't miss out, there aren't many in existence! more information »

FENDER® Stratocaster® 1966 Shoreline Gold. Yes, original FENDER® shoreline gold finish from the mid-1960’s. A previous owner has told me that, years ago, he swapped the body onto this Strat® as he though it would look cooler than the refinished body it had - he says this is original Shoreline Gold finish. He also added the old tortoise guard. Shoreline, not Firemist, gold . Beautiful colour. There is a small rout in the middle pickup cavity, and some player wear, noticeable arm and edge wear, but it looks great just the way it is. Under the shoreline gold, there is a silvery blue base coat, and under that there appears to be a cream coloured coat over the wood. It is most certainly original in my opinion too. See the pictures. You’ll be able to tell by looking closely and make up your own mind. It is a parts guitar, but all good old stuff, and not 40k. It also plays great! All parts, wiring, etc. are 1966, as is the neck (no date stamp - never had one), which has larger frets (a good older refret I think) and it plays and sounds just how we all like them to. Lovely transition logo on a beefy headstock. Plenty of the rich tone you get from that year. Think “Hey Joe”! Lots of soul. Original tortoise guard, and all original small parts, with a period black case with a “tail” logo and clean red lining. Great sounding and looking guitar, way too good to fall into the “player” category!! With refinished guitars going through the roof (following those rough condition sunbursts) doesn’t it make sense to go GOLD?? Email for more pics. Ships from the UK at cost in a pro carton. $Call and make an offer! more information »

Ampeg Portaflex B-15N Bass Flip-Top Bass Amp/Combo formerly owned and used by Chas Chandler of the Animals (also ex-manager of Jimi Hendrix, who also used one of these amps on the Dick Cavett Show!). This HAS to be a must for any fans of British Invasion bands or Hendrix! Chas Chandler used this amp on the early 1980’s ANIMALS reunion world tour. I’ll say that again; THIS AMP WAS USED BY CHAS CHANDLER WITH THE ANIMALS ON TOUR! I’m not sure of its history before the tour. That tour was the only time I know of that Chas played bass live after the original Animals line-up split in 1966, so it is historic for that reason alone! I saw that Jimi Hendrix used one of these amps for his guitar on the Dick Cavett Show dvd, although I don’t think it was this same one. The lid on this amp has the remains of a painted stencil “JHE” but I am not sure of the significance of this. It does not say “JH EXP”. IT says “AP2” on the sides, maybe “All Purpose”, maybe “Alan Price”?? In the late 1980’s, Chas gave this amp to a member of a band he was producing (they were called One Hand One Heart, all great musicians) here in Newcastle. I was in the studio with them from time to time and saw this amp. A couple of years later I bought it from the bass player in the band when he joined my band, as he was using Trace Elliott gear instead. I have had it ever since and only used it a couple of times. It sounds fantastic for bass, is very versatile, and can do guitar quite well too! All the band members are still around in the UK, and I can have any one of them verify this history! Documentation will come with the amp. The serial number is 72958 – you do the homework, I can only tell you about what I know. The amp flips over inside the cabinet for transportation and hangs inside the box – hence “Flip-Top”. It is very heavy and may cost a bit to ship – ask for a quote if you are interested. Shipping is at cost and I refund any difference between quoted cost and actual cost. Insurance extra. more information »

A 1963 Gibson SG Standard, similar to the one used by George Harrison, which we sold in 2003. This one was bought by the current owner in 1966, and has had a hard life! In '66 this guitar already had the "stinger" on the rear headstock, it looks original, and there is a larger number stamped over the original serial number into the black paint, presumably by the UK importer. You can still read the Gibson number. The guitar suffered a fall which dislocated the neck (period repair still holding 100%) one slight "wing" crack on the head (the head itself has not been cracked or repaired where it meets the neck. Bridge pickup replaced with later Gibson unit (but with original cover), neck pickup is an original '63 patent number. Vibrola arm is there but no bolt. Nickel parts. Newer tuners. Newer case. Plays and sounds incredible, that's why we would honestly describe it as a "player's guitar". Lots of wear and tear. 40 years of earning a living. Shipping at cost from UK. Not $25k!! more information »
