Luthier Rik Middleton started this guitar conceptually with the age-old question:- How do I achieve great tone via my own innovations and skills?
The end result is this Spruce top and East Indian Rosewood guitar which has a very familiar tone we expect to hear with a little more volume.
For his latest innovation Rik constructed something of a hybrid by making traditional fans in the treble area a bit thinner, but stiffened more with a small bit of trellising. The sound on this guitar sounds like something Torres would build and hand off to Smallman for minor touches on the braces.
Lots of volume, with lots of warmth expanding the range of anyone's tonal palette.
The finish is a very durable modern lacquer that dries to the correct level of hardness Rik wants. He has been doing this type of finish for a very long time. Different levels of thickness are applied to different areas of the guitar. It is very thin on the front, not very thick on the back and as thick as Rik can reasonably get it on the sides and neck where the wear rate is higher. It is just as acoustic as french polish. In fact it is put on to the front by a very similar manual technique.
The machine heads are called DJ which Rik recently started using. They are structurally very good and are friction adjustable by the srew slot at the bottom of the button.
Scale length is 650mm but may have come out a tiny bit more. Playability and feel and also intonation accuracy are things Rik stresses so there is a slight curvature across the fingerboard that makes barre work easier . There are also position markers that some people miss. They are located at the fret tangs at frets 5, 7, 9, and 12 on but they are well concealed so at a glance they are easy to miss. There is some concave bass relief down under the Bass E string.

Randy Angella has built guitars for perfomers such as Michael Lorimer and Jorge caballero just to name a few.
" I build guitars that reflect my preferences in the Classical guitar. I'm not a fan of "great guitar tone" i.e. woody, soft, round echoey, Spanish. I am more interested in characteristics that lend themselves to the production of an accurate portrayal of what the composer intended. If you use sound techniques, fine woods, and a sensible design any given guitar will produce a good "sound."
I am more interested in: a sharp and clear onset, a long and poetic decay, a useful balance of bass and treble, consistency of response, a wide tonal pallet, clear and strong orchestration, a wide volume dynamic, and last but not least, a love affair between the trebles and the basses."
