This guitar is very rare and unique, in that it has a Bigsby Vibrato and a Gold GLOSS finish, just like a brand new 1957 Les Paul would have had back in 1957! This Gibson Custom Shop Acoustic J-45 ADI is one of the most elegant and best-sounding versions of the J-45 ever produced. This guitar was hand-built by Gibson Acoustics's master craftsmen in Bozeman, Montana under the leadership of master luthier Ren Ferguson with an Adirondack spruce top. Adirondack spruce,which is often called Appalachian or red spruce, comes from the Adirondack mountains and Appalachian region, on the opposite side of the continent from where Sitka spruce is found. It grows from eastern Quebec to Nova Scotia, and from the uppermost reaches of New England to North Carolina. Adirondack spruce is the Holy Grail of Tonewoods used by both Martin and Gibson during the prewar era. Red Spruce is a $1000 upgrade over Sitka. It is also very rare. Adirondack spruce trees are much smaller than Sitka, and the forests where they grow have been under more pressure from development and logging, while acid rain has also taken a toll. However, when Gibson wants to build an acoustic that sounds as good as it possibly can, they put an Adi top on it. All the great acoustic guitar builders have nothing but praise for Adirondack spruce. Collings noted its strength, especially with the grain (from one end of a guitar top to the other), while others noted its higher elasticity, or as Taylor called it, Adirondack's "springy"quality. Bourgeois referred to its "high velocity of sound,"which he says usually results in a guitar with a lot of "headroom,"meaning an expansive dynamic range. But Adirondack is more than just good at being loud; it has a wide tonal range as well. It's therefore not surprising that though Adirondack's most loyal fans are flatpickers. Fingerstyle players also love the beautiful, balanced tone of Red Spruce. This guitar has got soul with punchy, deep lows, warm mids, and clear, crisp highs. This Memphis Reissue features the best of Gibson in 50 years. Custom Made in 2009, this very limited edition features a FLAMED Maple top, back and sides and a BIGSBY vibrato. When Gibson started making 335s, they were all drilled with holes for a stop tailpiece. Gibson would provide a guitar to an individual or a dealer with a Bigsby tailpiece only when requested. Since the Bigsby eliminates the need for a stop, they needed to cover up the holes with something. Their choice was to use a plastic engraved plaque that said "Custom Made" which they continued to use until early 1965. This limited edition features that plastic engraved plaque. Classic semi-hollow body design and dual '57 Gibson humbuckers combine to produce everything from full-bodied growls to singing sustain. The sound is awesome, warm, full bodied, clean and versatile with the ability to go from clean warm tones through to smoking distortion.
