SKU: JMI 15-4
There is no better or more accurate recreation of the original VOX AC-15 than this, the "15-4", manufactured by Jennings Musical Industries (JMI) in Doncaster, England. Every detail is in order: the handwired, point-to-point circuitry, EF86 preamp, Fawn-colored Tolex covering, all original-specification controls, cabinet construction and more. This is the original design, circa 1961.
Some tone hounds think the VOX AC-15 may be the most toneful combo amplifier ever built, even more so than the venerable AC-30. It's definitely easier to nail the "cranked AC-30" tone at more moderate volume levels, making it perfect for both club and recording studio use.
The JMI-15 is a two-channel amplifier (Normal and Vib/Trem). Its controls are Channel 1 Volume, Channel 2 Volume, Brilliance, Top Cut, Channel 2 Vibrato/Tremolo (a 2-position switch) and Speed. There are four inputs, two for each channel. Channel 1 uses the EF86 tube. Fifteen very loud watts are produced by two EL84 tubes. The tube rectifier is an EZ81.
This particular JMI-15 was built in 2009 and is serial #393. It is in great condition because it has lived in my studio. It has a Celestion Greenback 25-watt speaker. You will be amazed at the volume and tone of the JMI -15. If you've ever heard a real VOX AC-15, you know what I'm talking about. It is simply the most beautiful sound you'll ever hear, full of chime, harmonics and balls.
By the way, the hand-wired VOX AC-15, while a nice amp, is not built like an original AC-15. The JMI is. The VOX AC-15 doesn't have the EF86 preamp, which is the heart of this amplifier. The VOX also has a Master Volume control, Hot/Cool footswitch, etc. If you want the original design, the JMI-15 is for you.
The JMI-15 typically sells for over 1,500 British Pounds. (This equals approximately $2,333 plus Import Duties $). My amp is in excellent condition and it's here in the USA. Price: $1,849 + Shipping & Insurance.
