It's well known that these guitars were the basis for the famed Robben Ford models and come from Fender's Master Series. The previous owner is a highly regarded Jazz guitarist from the East Coast, so you can believe that the guitar plays impeccably and sounds like a hundred dollar bill. This is exactly the kind of piece that one would consider if a 5k Custom Shop Robben Ford was unavailable and if it's in your hands, then it will come out of this guitar. Please feel welcome to call or email with any questions or requests. more information »

There always seem to be three or four of these basses available on the market at anytime, but this particular bass is the most exceptional of them all on several points. First, it's the lowest number of the 400 we've seen in a good while. Our observations of these instruments have been that the lower numbered ones received the nicest woods and this one does not disappoint! The Alder body is wonderfully figured and the flame on the Maple top is sharp and eye- catching. Even the maple neck has an outstanding birdseyed Maple that just elevates the visual appearance of this piece off the charts. The Kubicki- style active electronics allow you to achieve virtually any tone you could want, from a bright piano- like ping to that world- renowned, passive P- Bass boom that we bassists all love so much. This bass also still has the plastic on the back cover panel and every piece of case candy that Fender included back in 1991. Lee and I pride ourselves on being picky about our basses and guitars- it's almost to a fault but in the end, when the instrument arrives at your door and you open the case, you'll appreciate why we're like that. Questions, comments and to- go orders are always welcomed- call us anytime and thanks for your consideration! more information »

When we first acquired this guitar, the main thing that jumped out at us was the fretboard. It's incredibly figured (for your typical Ricky 360) and I could not, for the life of me identify the wood. I did know one thing though: it was cool and unusual. So when in doubt and ya just don't know, ask someone who does and off I went over to talk to the guys in Rickyland. They were, as always very accommodating and gave me the skinny on this guitar. It's a 1984 360/6 in AutumnGlo (I already knew that) and the fretboard is made of Bubinga. That may or may not be special, but it complements what we think is a fantastic guitar that's already 28 years old and makes for exactly the kind of instrument we like to present here in 'Elkland. There is some light playwear on back and some pickswirls on the pickguard, but the tone is terrific and it's just a little different from the hundreds of other Rickys you see everyday. And that's why we like it so much- hopefully someone else will too! Please call or email with any questions or requests. more information »

In 2005, Guitar Center commissioned a limited and special run of 25 R9 Reissues to commemorate Les Paul's 90th birthday. It is our understanding that he personally picked out the tops and wood for these guitars, both for their looks and weight. This guitar certainly shows his penchant for quality as the top is nicely flamed, yet subtle and the guitar weighs in at incredible 8 lbs, 5 oz. He also signed the electronics backplate for each guitar. The neck has a perfect medium '59 profile and the guitar's tone is, like everything else about it, exceptional. The original COA was not with the guitar when we acquired it, but the rest of the paperwork and case candy are present. We also have a copy of the email sent from Gibson confirming the guitar's authenticity as part of this 90th Tribute Birthday Run. This guitar is a perfect contender for the collector/ player that wants both performance, looks and collectibility out of their Les Pauls, so please call or email for additional info or photos. more information »

The Les Paul Custom: everyone from Neil Young to Peter Frampton have made their mark on music with one and we consider it to be the "dark sister" to the Les Paul Standard. That said, every once in a blue moon, we see a Custom that possesses the best of both models and that is exactly the guitar we desire. It sets both itself and us apart from the ordinary pack and creates a buzz that directs you to the place where you'll find the unusual and cool. This particular Custom is a shining example of the uniqueness that occasionally would emerge from Gibson in the mid- late 90's and with the exception of the Ebony fretboard and block inlays carries the structural specs of an R9. Surely you will immediately notice the highly birdseyed AAA Maple top. It's a visually striking and a rare appointment which adds a brighter attack to the guitar's sound.. The matched 490R and 498T Alnico pickups provide a perfect balance of warm rhythm and hot lead tones and the one- piece Mahogany neck is carved to '59 specs. So, if you want to step outside the box with a guitar that combines the best of all Les Paul worlds, you've landed in the place where you have always belonged- GrinningElk Music. Get something different and then be exactly that... more information »

Lee and I just got into a pile of new Pedulla Thunderbass and Rapture bass cases and I was grinnin' like an...well, you know. This case originally housed a new Thunderbass 5, but I am sure a Thunderbass 4 or 6 would fit quite nicely. If you're one of the guys that bought a new Pedulla in the last few years and were told "it comes with a gigbag, man", then we have exactly what your high- end bass deserves. Give us a shout or email today- these cases are priced to fly out of here! more information »

Here's yet another smokin' Stingray from the 'Elk vault and any bass player will understand exactly what I mean when I say, "this is a great one"! The neck is straight and has a very nice, medium profile: not too thin but not a ball bat either. The tone is also above par with a great, round bottom and clear and cutting highs that are not harsh. Dial both of the tone controls back and you'll get that world- famous mid range bark that sends Marshall stack players scurrying into a corner. The weight is an incredible 9 lbs, 1 oz, which is virtually unheard of in these 70's Stingrays. Believe me, I've played more than a few sets with a 10+ pounder and as you well know, your shoulder talks to you after one of those long nights. There is the one noticeable ding on the upper face edge, as pictured below. The two bolts that attach the bridge to the bass are like no others I've ever seen, so I have to assume that they are not original and the case obviously has a replaced handle although it's must stronger than the original. Jeez- just look at that thing! If any of you low- enders have any questions, please call Ray because if you ask Lee about a Stingray, he'll walk over to the fish tank in the office to see if there's one in there... more information »

This guitar was one of the "fab five" that came into the Elkcave right before Christmas and a is a pure gem in both sight and sound. It's one of the finest Les Pauls to recently emerge from Gibson's Custom Shop and with less than 100 being made, a sure winning entry to the "instant collectible" category. It's got a fantastically flamed Maple top that would be worthy of any collector- grade R9 and the '57 Classic pickups provide the expected great tones for which they have become legendary. The Tree of Life inlays on the Ebony fretboard mirror the much higher grade Ultima Les Paul and the chambered body assures you that this guitar will never be cruel to your back if, like us you're older than 18! This one's in unplayed condition and hails from one of our elite collector clients. His pieces are always of the highest caliber when it comes to condition and originality, so they naturally fit right in with the world- renowned 'Elk standards. Here are the features:

I felt guilty leaving this guitar sitting on our website with no description for as long as I did; It's like we had a puppy we just weren't that fond of but truth be told, Lee and I just got into a pack of vintage Fender basses and I haven't been able to tear myself out of that pile. Shame on me. So, I pulled this J- 45 Vine out this afternoon, sat down in a quiet room and just played for about 45 minutes. I did this to get a feel for the piece and to connect with the instrument (as much as I could, being a bassist). The bottom end is warm, but not boomy and the mids/ highs are nice, clear and even with the bass tones. It reminds me of one of Lee's banner J- 45s and the tone is all classic Gibson. The vine inlays and Abalone binding make for a sophisticated look- simply put, this is a professional grade guitar that would be a proper companion whether on stage or in studio. As good as it looks and sounds, I can't believe we let her sit in the vault for as long as we have. Maybe her time just hadn't come, but now that it's here, someone will get the pleasure of owning a superbly crafted guitar and that's ultimately what it's all about, isn't it? more information »

Lee and I have been talking lately and came to the conclusion that our Gibson semi- hollowbody faction was a little under represented, so in order to correct that inequality, we'd like to offer this 1979 ES-335 CRS. These are somewhat rare guitars with only 300 being made in 1979 and if it's tonal nirvana you seek, then this is the machine to end your quest. To begin, CRS stands for Country/ Rock/ Stereo and the very name alone should indicate the many things that this guitar can do. The epoxy- backed, Bill Lawrence pickups are a little hotter than regular humbuckers, which would certainly cover the "Rock" part of it's name but if you back off of the volume, they butter up quite nicely and slide into a warm and creamy tone. Gibson should have included a "B" for Blues in the name because that is when the volume is eased back a little, you get one of the sweetest Blues tones you'll ever hear out of the guitar. It's surprising how much control you can have over the tone by just manipulating the volume knob. The TP-6 Fine Tune tailpiece allows you to tune on the fly if needed and if you enjoy the versatility of coil- tapped pickups, just reach for the toggle switch on the lower horn and there you are! Each pickup has a 1/4" output in the event you need a stereo setup and because this guitar came from a private Chet Atkins collection, it's in collector quality condition. We love unique and rare instruments; This guitar falls nicely into both categories and is a pleasure to play. Please feel free to call or email with any questions and we'll show you how quickly they can be answered! more information »
