ThatHamer moment. Born in 1960 and picking up an electric guitar as a virgin in 1974 at the age of 14, it now feels that, in retrospect, what we have all come to know as "this mysterious obsession", has perhaps in reality, been some unsettled poltergeist. A string virtuoso having been denied his single coil through a "plexi". From Athens, it's been "Locrian", the Greek God of the "Brown Sound" that has been stalking me. Stalking ALL of us. One particularly stubborn article of compulsive obsession in the late 70's had been abruptly challenged for its title as the hill tops "king". For me it was a "Moment" in time. One I'll never forget. A changing of the guard. It was the moment I first layed eyes on her, "Thee Hamer Guitar", "The Ultimate". The song may remain the same, but the body shape had changed. For the first time in years, the knawing in my gut, the pull of the Paul, the Cherry in me that had so longed to be Burst, had in one glorious un-cerimonious moment . . . . . Faded . . Just a little . . .but PERMANENTLY! And so it went, finally. What for years had been THE undisputed "Standard" for MY money, had (impossibly it seemed) been replaced by ANOTHER . . . . . . "Coitus". . . . The HAMER STANDARD. . . . . Hail to the King. . .long live the King. Over 30 years later, I still salivate at the sight of either one of them. But when that $5k one day finally hits the counter, Joel Danzig and crew can have another cold one, but THIS time, its on ME. Many hats off to you Sirs.
