The Making of a Parker Electric

Premier Guitar May 2008

Mundelein, IL (May 1, 2008) - Anyone who has picked up a Parker electric guitar knows why the instrument has such a loyal following. It is unlike any other guitar on the market. Whether it's your thing or not, it must be appreciated for what it is -- an innovative, lightweight guitar with a bold design and a unique sound.

We brought our camera to the Parker factory during a recent On Location visit to the Chicago area to see how these futuristic tone monsters are made. We've seen many guitar factories but have never seen anything like this. Let's just say the making of a Parker electric involves a lot of extremes -- cold and hot temperatures are involved, so are machines and human hands. A Parker guitar is made from wood and composite materials, giving it an extremely light weight while making it stronger than you'd believe. Traditional luthier tools are used, as well as a range of equipment you're just not used to seeing in a guitar shop: vacuum bags, tubes and even a pizza oven!

I am wondering how people did not know Ken Parker was/is no longer of what is called "Parker Guitars" any more, and Yes He continues making great guitars (Arch tops) but its a completely different company, and the posts are sad but true unfortunately

Hey Bob, nice to hear you know everything. Tell me, why then does Parker have no dealers ? Why are Parkers selling for less than a third on the used market than the new ones ? Why should i spend $3,000 on a new one when i can get a used one for $900 ?

Ken Parker sold the compnay in 2003, they dont want you to know that. Look man, i know everything about Parker guitars, if you think you know more than me, look me up on Parker Forums.

The " factory " looks more like a garage. They sell the guitars for as much as $7,000 and this is the best equipment ? a pizza oven ? PRS factory makes Parker look like some 3rd world sweat shop.

The guitars were made a lot better when Ken Parker worked there. Looks like they have found a way to cheapen up a high end guitar. I will pass on the new ones, give me an older model any day !
