Video: Egnater Lecture - Effects Loops

by Joe Coffey

Berkley, MI (April 15 2008) - The following video is a snippet from day two of Bruce Egnater's amp building seminar. On day two, the class delves deeper into the amp's schematic to better understand why it was designed the way it was. This segment was shot fly-on-the-wall style in order to give you a feel for the seminar's groove.  Day two is almost a full day of this kind of lecture/discussion about amp circuits-- pure bliss for DIY'ers.

The discussion at hand involves the amp's effects loop and why Bruce designed it to bump the gain up a bit rather than set it at unity gain. Seminar participant Gene Donnelly, III, asks Bruce about the nuances between the effects loop in the amp he just built compared to the amp he built with Bruce in a previous seminar.
