Targeting Chord Tones
from Soloing Ideas by Eric Slone

Over the years, many musicians have become accustomed to the key-center and chord-scale methods of soloing. Though these methods can be effective, it's also beneficial to know how to target the chord tones directly. We'll achieve this mainly using arpeggios. We'll add some tensions, or outside notes, to add a variety of musical flavors. If you're using an electric for this lesson, make sure you have a clean setting on your amp. By the end of this lesson, we will have obtained new ideas for soloing, as well as a greater appreciation for making melodies based on chords. Click to launch the lesson.
