The traditional music of Turkey is also based on the Middle Eastern mode called “maqam” and played predominantly on the oud.

Example 1: This maqam is called nawa athar, and the notes are C–D–E%–F#–G–A–B%.

Example 2: This example uses a maqam called nakriz in C minor. The notes are C–D–E%–F#–G–A%–B.
