Shifting is changing positions. With a lot of practice, this becomes easy. The trick is to practice your shifts accurately and with ease repeatedly so that accuracy and ease become the habit. There are various shifts you will see repeatedly in jazz tunes, so here are a few of the most common chord shifts to practice:

Exercise 1: iimin9-V7 b9-I6/9—1st Finger Anchor

Listen

Exercise 2: iimin7 to bV13 Substitute—Chromatic Bass Line

Listen

Exercise 3: iimin9 to V13 b9—1st Finger Anchor

Listen

Exercise 4: Shifting ii-V-I

Listen

Exercise 5: Another Shifting ii-V-I

Listen

Exercise 6: I7-VI7-II7-V7 Turnarounds
This is a cool way to play a I7-VI7-II7-V7 turnaround: approach each chord from a half step above.
