The Guitars of the Country Music Hall of Fame
Stanley Brothers
Among the first old-time musicians to respond to the call of Bill Monroe’s new sound, Carter and Ralph Stanley built a bluegrass following along the Tennessee-Virginia border, where dealers said their late-1940s records outsold Eddy Arnold’s. Carter, who played this modified Martin D-28 guitar, wrote the much-sung tune “The White Dove,” Ralph bout this Gibson, his first professional banjo from a Virginia coal miner.
