Hey there, how are all my peeps here in Lethal Guitar land? Great I hope! We’ve covered some serious ground in this sweep picking series. We’ve talked about everything from getting started with the sweeping technique, to some really cool and different ideas. Now it’s time to move to the graduate level stuff! In this lesson we’re covering a comprehensive illustration of the 2-string arpeggio in major, minor, diminished and augmented.
You’ll see that we use the diminished arpeggio when ascending and the augmented while descending. The tabs will be a bit longer than usual for illustrative purposes. The picking challenge here is a bit steeper, but well worth the effort. Most rock players aren’t that familiar with the augmented arpeggio but I’ll give you some good examples of how to supplement it into your playing.
Listen
Example 1: The 2-string major arpeggio in G
Listen
Example 2: The 2-string minor arpeggio in G minor
Listen
Example 3: The 2-string diminished arpeggio
Listen
Example 4: The 2-string augmented arpeggio
Listen
Example 5: Here I ascend using the 2-string arpeggios encompassing the key of D and including all passing tones harmonized with diminished arpeggios.
Listen
Example 6: I descend using the 2-string arpeggios and now all the passing tones are harmonized with augmented arpeggios.
These are extended versions of the 2-string idea. I could’ve broken it down into smaller segments, but I wanted to give you a more applicable approach. You can break each of the arpeggios into a small section, but try to work your way to the execution of the full study. Always practice with a metronome, start with a clean tone and a slower tempo working your way up to the desired tempo. Thanks for logging on and tuning in and I’ll see you next time in Lethal Guitar when we wrap up the sweep picking series.

I don't think there is a more comprehensive study of sweep picking. Beasley delivered it. PG has it. The archive is invaluable.
