I don't know how old Tommy is, but he must not be far from my own age of 61. I had never heard of him until my 22 year old son sent me a DVD of one of Tommy's shows in Chico, California. I fancy myself as something of a 1940's jazz guy and particularly like Joe Pass and Howard Roberts, so I was not really enthused about hearing some flat-top round-hole folksy finger picker. My impression during the first song in the set was OK here's a fellow who has finger style on specialized tunings down pretty well. After another two I'm thinking, he's got Chet's style down pretty well, too. Then he plays one with great chops. Then he plays and sings 'Nine Pound Hammer' and I'm laughing out loud and thinking 'this guy is a consummate entertainer, too.' Then he plays an instrumental Beatles medley where on 'Lady Madonna' and 'Ticket to Ride' he keeps the bass line going while simultaneously playing the chorded melody. He brings out a mouth harp player and handles 'Georgia' as well as anyone I've ever heard. More and more. Darned if Tommy Emmanuel didn't turn me into a raving fan.

I met Tommy at a clinic. He is one of the most nicest guys with extrodinary talent on the planet. It is so refreshing to meet a gentlemen who makes people smile in awe at his talent and endearing to their hearts as a person as well.

Captures Tommy perfectly. Preparation before the show, attention and dedication during the show. An excellent essay on a true gentleman.
