Backstage at the Grammys
Dave Bellamy of Soundtronix stands in front of three racks of wireless systems; there were actually four—one just for Green Day. As we walked by, they were in the process of coordinating 69 frequency channels for wireless microphones alone—and this was just during rehearsals. The engineering and design process to coordinate the frequencies began months before the show. They were running Shure, Audio-Technica and Sennheiser for wireless this year.
When asked to give readers advice on how to select a wireless system, Dave said to choose a wireless with the widest possible bandwith—he says a 60mHz bandwith is plenty in most cases.
