Buddy Guy
Living Proof
Jive Records

With Living Proof, Buddy Guy proves that even at 74 years of age he can put out one of the most cohesive and biting blues albums of the year. Guy has nothing to prove but still plays with the ferocity of guitar slingers a quarter of his age. During the solo on the opening track—fittingly titled “74 Years Young”—Guy is in classic form with his sustaining, overdriven tone and relentlessly energetic phrasing. Stylistically, Guy doesn’t stray too far from his roots—check out the guitar-boogie title track—and gives Chicago-style blues an updated feel while still sounding authentic. For the first time in the studio, Guy brings in B.B. King for “Stay Around a Little Longer,” a gospel-infused duet that’s the perfect setting for King’s singing fills and trademark vibrato. The combination of Guy’s blistering tone and drummer Tom Hambridge’s spot-on production and songwriting make this album a must for blues connoisseurs.

I have been a fan of Buddy Guy for years and was able to see him with Junior Wells at the old Four Queens in Las Vegas during Monday Night Jazz. Well, let me tell you, it was not jazz that night. And, after Buddy ventured onto the casino floor with his blazing guitar, management said he was not playing there again. He and Junior were phenomenal in bringing the place down. Well, he never played there again, but he has played Vegas regularly. I just saw and heard Buddy last night here in Vegas. It was one of the most enjoyable shows of his that I have seen. I was fortunate enough to draw him playing, and he was gracious enough to autograph my drawing. He is the best!

I was lucky enough to have grown up in Chicago and see Buddy with Junior Wells and all the great bands he fronted in the 70's. 80's, 90's and into this Century :) He and BB are the holders of the torch for Old School Blues Men. What a gentleman and an awesome musician. God bless Mr. Buddy guy!

I have been following Buddy Guy for many, many years. Here this - Living Proof is on par with 'Damn Right I've Got The Blues'. It is absolutely one of his best ... if not The best that can be remembered for a very long time! Oh - and the having B.B. King as a duet - WOW! Brought tears to my eyes. This is the Blues Album of the year
