Hybrid picking incorporates the pick along
with one or more right hand fingers,
resulting in a hybrid of pickstyle and fingerstyle.
The quickest way to get a handle on
hybrid picking is to try applying it to common
phrases, such as the following minor
pentatonic phrases.

m = medio, or middle finger
a = annular, or ring finger

This example will help you develop rapid alternation for downstrokes
and middle finger strokes.

Notice the simultaneous use of the middle and ring fingers as
well as alternate picking in this country guitar phrase.

Hybrid picking can also be quite helpful on pivoting arpeggio lines, also known as pedal-point in classical music.
Hybrid picking may be used in scalar sequences as well as
arpeggios. The example above shows the application
of hybrid picking to a descending scalar sequence in 6ths.
