Guitarist's Reference
Guitarist's Reference ($5.99) is a very cool app if you want to know things like what scales to play over a particular root chord. In its simplest form, all you need to do to use Guitarist's Reference is tap the "Select Key" button and enter the root chord. Then tap the "View Recommended Scales" button and the fretboard populates with all of the notes from the chosen scale.

The app also includes triads, arpeggios, a reverse chord finder tool, alternate tunings and the ability to choose a right or left handed guitar.

The only thing I don't really like about Guitarist's Reference is that it doesn't work in landscape orientation. Since that's the way I normally use my iPad, it's rather inconvenient.

on 04/24/2013 		Great roundup of guitar apps that demonstrates how the iPad is putting untold power and creative flexibility into the hands of guitarists for a nominal cost. It opens up extraordinary new possibilities, almost too many of them, to choose from. The thing is to just have fun with it. The tricky part is, as mentioned in the piece, is playing guitar and "producing" on the iPad at the same time. I'm using a new thigh-mounted music stand that puts your tablet PC right there on your knee, within a finger's reach. Much smaller and way more convenient than using a clunky conventional music stand. The website is http://thipad.com Thanks for researching all these apps.

on 05/05/2012 		I use RockProdigy. They have cool lessons and the song transcriptions are really accurate. It's the best that I found so far to work on my timing :)

on 04/26/2012 		I'm leaning towards getting amplitude with the Irig Stomp so I can change in songs from my amp to the effect or sound I have on the iPad. I need the foot pedal part (I'm a guitarist vocalist and can't afford to have to use my hands to change settings in the middle of a song. But Lilguitar has me considering the armpit app instead. Does anyone know if I can get a foot switch for this? I really just want the effects like DD, chorus, compressor, phaser, flanger etc. I would play this through my Peavey valve amp and cabinet.

on 04/02/2012 		Addendum to previous comment: I had problems with irig et all. I bought the Apogee Jam and haven't had a noise problem since.
