GALLERY: Guitar Heroes – Legendary Craftsmen from
James D’Aquisto, Greenport, New York, late ’70s
After D’Angelico’s death, D’Aquisto did repairs for nearly a year before building guitars on his own. Among his first instruments was a New Yorker Special in 1967 that bore most of the hallmarks of a D’Angelico, but with some modifications. D’Aquisto would have a career that stretched into the 1990s, during which he contributed both traditional and more modern guitar designs.
