Satellite Moonshine prototype
Adam Grimm of Satellite Amplifiers likes building new amps and using various tubes to get the job done. This year, Satellite launched the Moonshine prototype—named after the corn whiskey in the amplifireplace seen later in this gallery—which has a pair of 7591A tubes that push about 32 watts, plus a pair of 12AX7s and a 5U4 rectifier. Bearing Satellite’s standard control setup with Volume and Tone, the Moonshine has high and low inputs, and 4, 8, or 16 O speaker outputs. “Sonically, it is close to our Mudshark amp [reviewed by PG in the June 2011 issue] with a bit more oomph and a tiny bit more output,” says Grimm. “It has a lot of note definition while still being pissed.”
