Richard Gere evokes the style of Robert Johnson and plays with an intensness that shows he has paid his dues. I he were not acting he would be revered by all the bluesmen. As Stephen Stills so aptly stated..."People talk to reassure themselves". An assured person keeps mum. Richard lets his guitar speak for itself. When I first heard him play the blues I had no idea it was him because he was squated down in a pawn shop looking down. As he played so authentic and true to the masters I just walked up to speak to the player and when he looked up I was shocked to see Richard Gere! He was the last person on earth I would have guessed could be playing those real Mississippi styled acoustic guitar blues. I was so impressed I bought the very guitar he was playing just to claim it was once played by Richard Gere.I called Andy Owens Music Center after he told me he was going there to get a guitar and told them I represented Richard Gere and asked if they would drop the price on the guitar he was going to buy. They agreed to that. He will smile when reading this post hopefully as it was the least I could have done for him after treating me nice after I butchered his acting performances to the shop owner who could care less who he was. I'm just glad my wife was not with me then as she would have surely tossed herself into his arms and acted like a idiot. Don't be jealous. Be as faithful.Be glad he cares for music. Richard bought these when they were affordable. He was collecting back in the day.

Estimates are low IMHO. I can see this collection going for $500,000 without the Richard Gere association. Throw that in and get some celebrity/high profile bidders, and we are looking at $750- $1M. Very, very generous of Mr. Gere.

No worries Coot. All opinions can sometimes be rather passionate.

That Carly Frost poster is ignorant to the fact that Richard Gere is a bluesman of the purest form and can play the strings sweet and steamy. He can stand with any blues musician period. He offered to let me play his gold plated Mary Kay back at DEG studios in the eighties but I passed. He does let others play his guitars but you have spoken out of turn and will be tried by your on words.

Mr. Gere's collection is a good one. And his benevolence is remarkable. It is his business alone that he chose to offer it up to causes. We have no sway in this matter. Jay-Em is right. My apologies if my verbosity got too intense. But I do not suffer fools like Pat or Carly lightly. My charity is my business. Bravo Mr. Gere!
