The 335 Bass is simply the latest Gibson "almost-but-not-quite," like the SG Bass. Just as they should have gone full-tilt and done the SG as a true EB-3 (with individual pickup volume/tone controls and the 4-way Varitone), they should have made this a real EB-2D reissue - Sidewinder/mini-buckers, choke switch, and 30" scale (the long scale and pickup placement give it an awkward, ungainly look, quite unlike the original) - and let the Midtown stand on its own merits as the "modern" hollowbody instrument. Taken side-by-side with Guild's (far-less-expensive) Newark St. Starfire Bass it becomes painfully obvious just how badly Henry J. missed the mark on this one; I don't think it'll last too long once those Guilds start getting into the pipeline...

The Gibson Scotty Moore ES-295 has a Melita bridge (usually found on old Gretsch guitars). You can set the intonation fast with by loosening one of 6 thumb screws. Can't believe more guitars don't have these.

Did Gibson widen the neck at the nut to 1 3/4 or 1 7/8?
1 11/16 just doesn't cut it -- to thin.
