Alex Lifeson Introduces Signature Lerxst Omega Amplifier

Press Release

After working with engineers at Mojotone, Alex Lifeson is putting his name on an exact replica of the custom amplifier used in his guitar rig.

Burgaw, NC (March 1, 2013) -- Fans of Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson and his stunning guitar tone finally have the opportunity to get their hands on one of Lifeson's most prized pieces of gear. After working with engineers at Mojotone, one of the leading custom amp builders in North America, Lifeson is putting his name on an exact replica of the custom amplifier used in his guitar rig. Dubbed the Lerxst Omega, the amp will be available to the public immediately.

The Lerxst Omega amplifier was created by Mojotone based on a vintage Marshall amp Lifeson used in the studio while recording the band's latest album, "Clockwork Angels." With select modifications made to the circuitry and an overwhelming attention to aesthetic detail, this 25/50 watt amp is a marvel in the world of modern sound amplification. And for a guitarist like Alex, who has one of the most distinctive and recognizable tones in rock music, the Lerxst has to live up to a high level of expectation.

"It sounds so good!" stated Lifeson, moments after receiving the very first build of his new signature amp. "We pulled the Marshall last night after A/B-ing the two. The tonal character is quite similar, but the response of the Lerxst® has greater immediacy, sustain and grip."

Mojotone--in direct partnership with Alex Lifeson--will produce the all hand-wired Lerxst Omega amp ($2,995) and matching Celestion G-12M loaded Tall 4x12 speaker cabinet ($1550). The amp and cabinet will be available via the lerxstamps.com website immediately.

FYI...the H&K Alex amp had a retail price of $4,299 and a street price of well over $3K. And that was all PC board construction. A hand-wired Lerxst for $3K looks like a pretty fair deal.

I would rather spend the money and buy a Marshal JVM410h and still have change left over for a cabinet!

Great. Finally an amp put out by one of my all time favorite players and the price is $3000? Anyone have suggestions on duplicating it for a 1/3 of the price? I thought his signature LP priced at $4000+ was a disappointment. Apparently, successful musicians forget that the average guy will have to save years to afford their latest offerings.

The qualities of immediacy and sustain are clear to me. But what is meant by "grip"? What kind of sonic characteristic is that?? I could understand if it was a coloquialism meaning a kind of compression, but what, then, would set it apart from "sustain". Even as a marketing hype buzz word, I'm left scratching my head at "grip" as a sonic term. If anyone feels they understand what it means, please elucidate. Thanks!

Yawn. Another amp destined to only see the inward dens of people who hunt signature and boutique gear as their wildlife gaming trophies. And another step further from reality. Do any of these musicians remember what it was like as a starving artist?

His H&K rig was awesome and covered 30 plus years of Alex's ever changing tones. Regardless of what amp he uses it will be the layering of effects and the magic in his fingers that create his tone. I've seen Rush live on every tour since 2112 and his live sound over the past decade has been the best.

@David: thanks man. JCM 800's are more raw and need a boost to get beyond AC/DC tones. SJ's are smoother, darker and the EQ is fantastic plus sound awesome with overdrive. I think Mojotone will have a winner here.
