Boss Announces TE-2 Terra Echo, DA-2 Adaptive Distortion, and MO-2 Multi Overtone

Press Release

Each of the pedals feature Roland’s new and innovative Multi-Dimensional Processing (MDP) analyzes audio signals in many dimensions and applies ideal effects to each.

Los Angeles, CA (January 21, 2013) -- Boss has announced the latest editions to its compact pedal line to be debuted at Winter NAMM 2013: the TE-2 Terra Echo, DA-2 Adaptive Distortion, and MO-2 Multi Overtone

Each of the pedals feature Roland’s new and innovative Multi-Dimensional Processing (MDP) analyzes audio signals in many dimensions and applies ideal effects to each. By giving different dynamic changes relative to the input signal in real-time, MDP can create bold, all-new sounds with a previously unattainable range of expression.

TE-2 Terra Echo
Powered by Multi-Dimensional Processing technology (MDP), the TE-2 Tera Echo produces a dynamic new stereo ambience effect that goes far beyond traditional delay and reverb.

Features:

  • Next-generation BOSS compact pedal with innovative Multi-Dimensional Processing, realized with proprietary technology and custom DSP
  • Rich, spacious echo and ambience effects
  • Dramatically enhances the direct tone, but never overwhelms it
  • Freeze function holds the ambient sound for lead backing and sound effects
  • Ultra-responsive to volume changes and playing dynamics
  • Wide range of sound adjustment with simple controls
  • Mono/stereo input and output

Thanks to MDP, the TE-2 delivers an amazing new ambience effect that satisfies and inspires. Complex internal processing produces an incredibly deep and spacious sound, dramatically enhancing the straight guitar tone without overwhelming it. Through the TE-2’s simple, familiar stompbox controls and incredible sensitivity to your playing dynamics, an extremely wide range of sounds can be achieved. And with the expressive Freeze function, you can hold the current effect sound to create rich soundscapes for lead playing and sonic exploration.

The TE-2 Tera Echo represents a milestone as the 100th model in the long history of the BOSS compact series. Starting with the release of the OD-1 Overdrive in 1977, BOSS’ legendary stompboxes have been integral tools of artistic expression for millions of players around the world. Fueled by a spirit of dedication and innovation that began nearly four decades ago, the TE-2 carries on the BOSS legacy of bringing inspiring, leading-edge technologies to musicians everywhere.

DA-2 Adaptive Distortion
Powered by Multi-Dimensional Processing technology (MDP), the DA-2 Adaptive Distortion delivers ideal distortion tones wherever you play on the guitar neck.

Features:

  • Next-generation BOSS compact pedal with innovative Multi-Dimensional Processing, realized with proprietary technology and custom DSP
  • Distortion that adapts to create the ideal sound in every register
  • Ultra-responsive to volume changes and playing dynamics
  • High-clarity sound, even when playing two or more notes at the same time
  • Very low noise, even with high-gain settings
  • Intuitive operation similar to standard distortion pedals

Unlike standard distortion pedals that process the entire guitar signal with one effect, the DA-2’s Multi-Dimensional Processing employs multiple distortion processors to seamlessly adapt the sound in real time and create the ideal tone for every register. As a result, the DA-2 delivers a rich, musical distortion that plays well all over the neck, from tight, edgy low-string tones to fat, smooth highs for lead playing. With the power of MDP, the DA-2’s distortion is dramatically responsive to your playing dynamics, and every note is heard with clarity and definition.

MO-2 Multi Overtone
Powered by Multi-Dimensional Processing technology (MDP), the MO-2 Multi Overtone uses your guitar’s harmonic characteristics to create a wide range of extraordinary new sounds.

  • Next-generation BOSS compact pedal with innovative Multi-Dimensional Processing, realized with proprietary technology and custom DSP
  • Impressive, harmonically rich sounds that compliment and enhance your straight guitar sound
  • Works well with both clean and distorted guitar tones, and also bass guitar
  • Ultra-responsive to volume changes and playing dynamics
  • Three different sound modes; wide range of tonal adjustment with simple controls
  • Mono or stereo output

The MO-2 produces incredibly distinctive and expressive tones only possible with the magic of MDP. Using your guitar’s rich harmonic characteristics as a starting point, the MO-2 builds completely new voices that enhance and thicken your normal sound. Three different modes offer diverse tone-shaping options, while the DETUNE knob unlocks a wide range of impressive modulation effects. From shimmery multi-string resonance to flute-like transparency to powerful textures reminiscent of organs and synths, the MO-2 brings you an array of unique sonic tools that add all-new dynamic resonance characteristics to your guitar.

The TE-2 sounds pretty neat, too bad I just bought a Catalinbread Echorec. Not a big fan of the other two new pedals, but at least BOSS is experimenting a bit.

From Youtube"EXCLUSIVE LOOK: Boss TE-2 Tera Echo Pedal" I like the TE-2. I like the BBE Type Flanging incorporated with the echo. Eric Johnson on steroids.

I'm still looking for a cheap simple Echoplex. I own a DD6 and a DD3 and I own a ME-30 that I rarely use. The guy in the video talks too much. The guys demoing the units are too busy showing guitar techniques instead off demoing the pedal. I've been playing since 1966 and I learned nothing here. Maybe You Tube has a better review of the pedal. but while we are on the conversation, I don't leave my pedals on the floor to be stepped on. They sit sit in a case on my amp where I can reach and tweek the knobs. I'm all about dropping a Tornado in the middle of the living room and you can't do that with your pedals on the floor. Think "Echoplex" You can do it and You can do it cheap. I'm not impressed with the Loop line.

Looking at the ad copy for the TE-2, the "freeze" function makes me think they finally figured out how to replicate the EHX pedal that came out a year or two ago, which is great if you liked that concept but wanted in a BOSS form-factor; but otherwise I think I'd stick with my DD-series delays. The distortion has a nice concept, but this demo at least seemed over-processed to my ears.

I really dislike this pedals. I does not sounds good to me. I think BOSS has the best compact pedals shape, it looks good, but the sound is terrible in this demo, just like a shitty multi-effect digital BOSS DSP COSM MDP. Sometimes they make good digital pedals like the Power Stack or the Combo Drive, but not this time.

Is it just me, or does Boss seem to being headed in the opposite direction or most other pedal makers? I quite like some of my old Boss pedals but none of these sound good in this video. Agreed on the voice over guy... "Hi, I'm Troy McClure, you may remember me from the TV series 'When animals attack'"
