Carvin Releases 24-Fret California Single Carved Top Guitars

The CS624, CS424, and CS342 offer 24-fret single-cuts at different price and feature levels.

San Diego, CA (December 18, 2011) -- Thanks to customer requests and the popularity of their 24-fret California Carved Top guitars, Carvin is pleased to offer their California Single guitars in new 24-fret versions. Like the 22-fret CS6, CS4, and CS3, these new models are handcrafted at Carvin's San Diego Custom Shop from the finest materials, including premium mahogany for the body and set neck, fast-playing ebony fingerboards, and genuine abalone dot inlays.

CS624

The new CS624 features a standard 4A flamed maple top and matching headstock, which can be finished in any of Carvin's deep triple step finishes. Optional top woods, including 4A quilted maple, flamed Hawaiian koa, flamed spalted maple and burled maple are available with natural binding. The standard ebony fingerboard sports medium-jumbo nickel-silver frets, and many other fret choices in nickel and stainless steel are available, as are other fingerboard woods such as rosewood, birdseye maple and flamed maple.

The CS424 has the same features as the CS624, with a plain maple carved top, which can be finished in any of Carvin's standard solid, optional metallic, or optional translucent finishes. The CS324 has no top wood, just a beautifully sculpted mahogany body, which can also be finished in Carvin's translucent or solid finishes. Medium-jumbo frets, Sperzel locking tuners and a 24K gold headstock logo complete the package, and Carvin's hundreds of Custom Shop options are available for custom-tailoring the guitars.

All three models are equipped with Classic Series C22 pickups, a master volume control, master tone control that doubles as a push/pull coil splitter, and a 3-way pickup selector.

After decades of getting the catalogue, I bought a used ST300 (2/11). Was so impressed with every aspect from feel>tone>additional features>exceptional quality, I bought a DC127 and an AE185 five months later (both used). Compared to the Les Pauls & the PRS I've got, the Carvins definitely do not stand in any of their shadows.

Ordered a SH550 last month. $2005.0 . Having trouble waiting , but quite sure it will be worth the wait. Was quoted 6 weeks.Just got the postcard- says on for Feb. 13. I have never seen one or touched one. Got a friend who swears by the quality of their Basses.

I actually think PRS got a lot of his design ideas from Carvin; just look at the Tiger Flame Maple Caps and the way the finishes jump out and say,'Buy me!' I've owned a Carvin double cut and a 100w Tube Head; both pieces top quality for less than 'top shelf prices.' I WOULD LOVE TO BUY their 'lunchbox' style amp head... it won top prize at last year's NAMM. Carvin is right up there with any company, in ANY product range. They certainly deserve a spot next to the Fender's, PRS's, Gibson's, Mesa's, and Marshall's intheir own respective fields; a true legend.

I've been a Carvin "fan" since the late 70s, but until recently I had never played a Carvin guitar. I had the opportunity while visiting family in Southern CA, to visit the showroom on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. Guys and gals, the build quality, workmanship, fit and finish of the guitars were flawless! The I played a CA single cut (similar to the green one pictured), and it had a great moderate weight, good balance, feel and tone. The finish was among richest I have seen on ANY guitar! The factory set up could have been improved upon, but there was nothing to indicate a good local set up couldn't do just that. I have gotten the Carvin catalogs for years and have been on their website many times. It made me seriously consider custom instrument from Carvin. It will be money well spent. Great company. Great products.

I have a Carvin CT3 with coil-split humbuckers. I love the carved strat shape and set neck. The humbuckers are pretty nice for something off the assembly line. I think they're kind of aggressive compared to the 498T & 490R pups on my Gibson LP, but still really nice. The build quality is top notch and seriously, if the headstock had PRS or some other big name on it, the guitars would be at least double the price. You can go easy on the options and still have a really nice guitar. On the other hand, you could go hog wild and check every expensive option if you wanted to. It's up to you. Your guitar exactly as you imagine it. If you're going to spend a nice chunk of change on a guitar, Carvin is well worth a look.

Lefty, you don't buy guitars as an investment. You buy them to play them. carvin makes better guitars than the current Gibson does, and they have been making pickups and guitars for a long time. The old Mosrite guitars had carvin pickups in them. Buy a guitar because it plays well and you like the way it sounds and looks. Forget the brand names. That's just brain washing.

Once you've played / owned a Carvin you'll be amazed. Buy it to play it, NOT as an investment. I'll put my $1400 CS (LP clone) up against anything Gibson makes BUT I would never expect to get much fo it. Their quality is mind numbing.

I've had my Carvin AE185 for several years now, and have been very happy. It has always played and sounded great. I ordered mine with a quilted maple top and the catalog pics are right on. Lots of guitar for the money.

I'm in the same boat. I've looked at the site, got the cataloge, just never saw one in person.
