Carvin Releases Allan Holdsworth Headless Guitars

The guitars were developed in response to Holdsworth's request for a compact, headless version of his H2 and HF2 Fatboy guitars.

Santa Barbara, CA (January 4, 2011) -- Carvin has announced the Allan Holdsworth HH series of headless guitars. The guitars were developed in response to Holdsworth's request for a compact, headless version of his H2 and HF2 Fatboy guitars. After extensive research and development by the Custom Shop, and "on the road" testing by Allan, the HH Series was born.

The single-pickup HH1 and dual-pickup HH2 guitars feature a chambered alder body with a white birch top and Eastern hard rock maple set neck. The chambered body and headless design make the HH Series guitars extremely light, weighing in at less than 5.5 pounds. A JCustom Headless Research hardtail bridge with fine tuners is standard, and a JCustom XS-Trem tremolo system with fine tuners is optional.

Body and neck woods, including premium mahogany, walnut, swamp ash and koa are available, along with AAAA flamed/quilted maple, flamed koa, figured claro walnut, burled maple and spalted flamed maple top woods. A 25.5” scale ebony fingerboard with white dot inlays, medium jumbo nickel-silver frets and a semi-flat 20” radius are standard. Multiple neck options are available, including fingerboards woods; fretwire materials & sizes; dot, block, diamond and Signature inlays in genuine abalone and mother-of-pearl; and gloss, satin and tung-oiled back-of-neck finishes.

Many finishes are offered, including standard solid colors, optional metallic and translucent stains, and deep triple step finishes on flamed and quilted maple. Electronics consist of Carvin’s Allan Holdsworth Signature H22 humbuckers, with a mini-switch pickup selector on the HH2.

Does Carvin offer a custom carved (arched) top on their new headless guitar line? If so, I want one! This is the first guitar I've seen that might actually be comparable to one of Paul Morley's custom built Fretsong headless guitars, with all the wood & neck choices, WOW, Go Carvin! Paul recently built a wonderful guitar for me, but it has a beautiful arched top, which I love. I also have a California carved top Carvin, with a headstock, and it's been one of my favorite guitars. I don't really like flat-faced guitars (or headstocks) as much as I once did, and hope that Carvin might offer this arched top option with their headless line.

I absolutely love it. As a proud owner of three Carvin guitars and four Carvin amps, I have been lusting after the HH2 fatboy for sometime. This is a great addition to the line up.

Glad they're doing this. My Carvin guitars don't get played as much because I love the headless feel and so mostly play a couple Korean Steinberger Spirits with upgraded electronics.

Are there any video or audio demos of the HH2 guitar?

WOW ! I just went to their current CATALOG on line and I see that they DO have a HOLDSWORTH guitar with Synth Access. Unfortunate, you can't have both a TREMOLO AND Synth access on the same guitar, it seems. The Holdsworth model that offers the Synth Access is not the headless one, but the "Fatboy" that they've had for some time now. Still, I'd like to have an American made guitar that is headless and has a trem.

I'm waiting for Carvin to make a Roland ready (synth access) electric guitar with a solid reliable rock and roll trem. They are getting pretty close. I'd love to see THIS guitar with single coil options and a 13 pin output. I'd order one! I suppose I could just put my OWN Roland pickup on it....
