Dumble Overdrive Special Rig Hits eBay

The rig includes Dumble Overdrive Special #0180, speakers, Dumbleator II with footpedal, and original road cases.

Carmel, CA (February 6, 2013) -- Late guitarist Todd Epstein's Dumble Overdrive Special Rig has hit the auction block as part of an estate-sale. The rig includes Dumble Overdrive Special #0180, speakers, Dumbleator II with footpedal, and original road cases.

According to the listing, the amp was built in 1993-94, and was used onstage twice and in Epstein's home about a dozen times before his death in 1995. The seller, Teresa, says the rig has been preserved in its original cases ever since. The eBay auction was posted on February 5, 2013 and currently has six bids at $50,100.

Dumble Modified Bassman, Epstein's 2nd rig, is for sale on Ebay now. Epstein had 2 favorite Amps. He loved his Dumble Overdrive Special Rig that was just sold to Rene del Fierro. His '62 Bassman was modified by Dumble and sounded better than any other new Amp. he would buy and have modified and be disappointed with. He bought a new ToneMaster and a new Torres- he had modified; but the Bassman still sounded better, than any new Amp. Serious musicians are welcome to come play the Dumble Modified Bassman in Carmel.

No matter what it sounds like there's no harm buying it as long as you can sell it for what you paid for it. So far it seems like whatever price you pay for it it will be worth more later. The key words are "So far". We may be in a Dumble Bubble.

How much money does one have to spend before one realizes that the tone is in the hands?

Sorry... I just don't really respect the enterprise of deliberately designing something in an obsessive manner that ensures that it will be hyper-expensive, rare, and available only to the super-rich. That may not have been the initial intention, but that's what happened. Creating items for the hyper-privileged is obviously fine -- but I don't have to applaud it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.... Are you F-ing kidding me? 50k for an f-ing amp? Do you know how much cool new/vintage gear can be bought for that? These days with so many indie builders, you can get a custom clone built SUUUUPER CHEAP. All this NASA research? For an amp? Ok.... WTF!!! WHO CARES! Do you know how many family members you can help? Or how many homeless peeps can eat for 50k, or how many charities will benefit from that kind of cash. Better yet, put it in the bank for a rainy day or your kid's education. Seriously people, smell reality. 50k for an amp...?It better come with free gas, a car and a hot nympho chick. Hahahaha...!

Oh puleeeeze. The DNA is out of the bag, and guys like Fuchs (and a few others) can get you equal or better tone at much more reasonable prices than the inflated value Dumbles are going for...

There's a difference between what certain things cost and what they are worth. Art objects generally command a higher price than the price of their component parts, e.g., canvas, paint and brushes. Same with sculpture. Same with handmade anything given the provenience is in tact. I would love to hear this piece and would love to see it go to an inspired player. Heaven knows the world needs one.
