Los Angeles, CA (December 17, 2008) -- Eddie Van Halen launches the all-new EVH Wolfgang electric guitar, available worldwide beginning Jan. 2009. The EVH Wolfgang guitar represents Eddie’s 35 years of experimenting with guitars, over two years of intense research and development, and a full year of brutal road testing during the top-grossing Van Halen 2007-2008 tour.

It was during the massive 2007-2008 Van Halen tour that the all-new EVH Wolfgang guitar went through extensive live “road testing” performance trials. The tour kicked off in fall 2007, and Eddie punished early versions of the new Wolfgang each night; playing every updated prototype onstage under the full, unfiltered spotlight of his fans. The results are reflected in the EVH Wolfgang guitar; produced to Eddie’s exact specifications and with features identical to the Wolfgang guitars he records and performs with.

“A guitar is a very personal extension of the person playing it. You have to be emotionally and spiritually connected to your instrument. I could have just stayed at home and built this guitar for myself. I do this because a lot of people ask if they can get what I use. Well, yes you can and what you get is identical to what I use,” commented Eddie. “From the basics of the guitar to painstaking aspects like the binding and everything else—we re-did everything on this guitar.”

“Every aspect and component of this guitar has been examined and upgraded to the highest standards possible: stainless steel frets, double-potted custom-wound pickups, five-piece binding on the matching body and headstock, custom-made signature tuning machines and Floyd Rose bridge, new low-friction pots, and the list keeps going … we left no stone unturned,” said Eddie. “Everything that I’ve built, destroyed, stumbled onto, learned and experienced is in this guitar.”

When Eddie Van Halen made his debut into the rock music scene in 1978, he did so with a homemade guitar (later known as “Frankenstein”). At a time when his monster technique and tone demanded a high-performance, indestructible guitar, he created his own to reach his own seemingly impossible standards. For over 35 years, he has continued to examine and improve every variable within the instrument, all culminating with the new EVH Wolfgang guitar.

The guitar will come in Vintage White and Black, MSRP $2999, and Quilt Top Tobacco Sunburst, MSRP $3149.

I like it but no way for $3K. I'm not paying for Ed's health care! I rather get used LP for much less.

Zakk Wylde's Les Paul signature: $4699, Kirk Hammett's signature ESP KH-2: $2599, Steve Vai's Ibanez Jem: $2599, Eddie's EVH Wolfgang: $2999. People cash in all the time on their name. You will always pay more for a Signature Series guitar. If you don't like it, don't buy it. I want one but I'll hold out for a striped version.

All the price whiners here, have none of you looked at the cost of Gibson USA Les Paul's? Musicman, high-end Fender, Jackson, ESP, Ibanez or any other guitar? What these are going for in stores is NOT, in any way, unreasonable, comparatively speaking. You can buy a much crappier guitar for the same kind of money. Also, going on about Fender is kind of irrelevant. Eddie is not "ripping off the Wolfgang." When Ed left Music Man, he was pretty ticked off when he found they owned the design. So he had to work on a re-design with Peavey, but this time he made sure he owned his design. This guitar is another evolution of his design. The guitar isn't light years beyond the Music Man or Peavey, it's just different, and is more about EVH wanting to start his own brand of equipment and accessories, which anyone in his position, with any business acumen would be a fool not to do. EVH bashing is very trendy nowadays, but play the bloody guitar and do some comparative shopping before trashing it. It is one of the best guitars you can currently buy, and a price that isn't cheap, but isn't out of line with other high end guitars.

I have owned this guitar for months - hands-down the best playing axe I own. Pups are awesome, trem is fantastic - everything about this guitar reeks of quality components and craftsmanship. I can't stop playing it - and I have other high-quality choices. 'Bout ready to unload them for a 2nd one. BTW, stainless frets means they throw away the tools (literally) they eat tools - just so that you can undestand the costs going in; dealer markup on these is pitiful ($200-300). You snooze, you lose.
See ya!

Cool guitar, except they just missed it with the pickups, the Peavey's were better, and the Ernie Balls were WAY better. Plus, the price tag,? WOW! You can get a brand new PR>> custom 24 neck through the body, 10 top mahogany, maple top, beautiful bird inlays with rosewood/mahogany neck.(FOR LESS). thanks Ed, we hope the Fender gang can drop some prices, we aren't all millionaires.

Isn't all this getting silly.Artists are cashing in on their names with designer products, and this is just another example.I'm sure that this is a very fine guitar,BUT it won't make me Eddie.I picked up a 68 goldtop with a few issues for 800.00 canadian recently,a boss DM-2 for 20.00 bucks.I have always found great deals on instruments by keeping an eye open for deals.3 grand+ for a signature guitar. No thanks
