Electro-Harmonix Releases the Crying Tone Wah Wah Pedal

The Crying Tone wah wah pedal is part of a new series for Electro-Harmonix dubbed The Next Step.

New York, NY (June 13, 2012) – With the unveiling of the new Crying Tone wah wah, Electro-Harmonix has re-invented this classic pedal and brought it into the 21st Century. EHX founder and president, Mike Matthews, explained its conception this way: “The wah wah pedal has been around since the 1960s and guitarists love them. But they also complain to me that the moving parts wear out, break and need to be replaced. Now, almost half a century later, technology has advanced to where we’re able to create a wah wah with absolutely no moving parts. The pedal sounds incredible, is more responsive and has no moving parts to break.”

The Crying Tone wah wah pedal is part of a new series for Electro-Harmonix dubbed The Next Step. Currently, there are four other pedals designed and poised for production: An Expression Pedal, Pan Pedal, Talking Pedal (vocal formant wah with fuzz) and Volume Pedal.

Every aspect of the Crying Tone pedal’s design, from its unique shape to its state-of-the-art circuitry, is the result of almost three years of intensive design and development by an international team of engineers and musicians. The Crying Tone Wah Wah pedal comes equipped with a 9Volt battery and accepts an optional 9.6DC-200 power supply. The Crying Tone is shipping now and carries a U.S. List price of $116.

It looks like there is a clip on the side for the power supply, so the issue of the power cable working its way loose may be resolved in the design.

I would like to try this pedal before knocking it. The input and output cable concerns are valid, but for some people who play around the house or occasionally gig it may not have any problems.

Rick - there are a bunch of wah's with 5x voices, check out (if you haven't already) the company RMC, for my money the holy grail (excluding vintage) of wah!

I agree. The strain on inputs and the inability to attach it to a pedal board are definite draw backs. I applaud the effort, but don't see it going anywhere. Sorry EHX.

I applaud EH for the innovation and new tech they are introducing in the industry.also they say alot more Ideas to come..Im sorry,But power&cable in/out gona be moving around..And I know from 30yrs jammin that no phone jack on each side wants to be minutely aggravated by cable pressure..the standard wah is too simplfied to beat.. for the money we need a 5x multi voiced wah.even tho the rack wah @ dunlop, said by dunlop to cover all their wahs they produce.it would be nice if an interchangeable pot or x5 voiced wah was avalible..other manufactures could even sell a custom pot that fit a dunlop Wah.just an Idea.
