Hamer Talladega

Scottsdale, AZ (January 9, 2012) -- Fender has issued a statement regarding ceasing production of Hamer guitars, which falls under the FMIC/KMC banner. This is what they had to say about the decision:

Fender Musical Instruments Corp/KMCMusicorp is suspending production of Hamer instruments to focus our efforts on other brands within the company's portfolio, and to continue to address musicians' needs by designing and building the highest quality, most sought-after instruments in the world.

At this time there are no immediate plans to manufacturer Hamer instruments. However, should the market dictate the need for Hamer instruments, it will be considered.

We will continue to service all consumer and dealer inquiries for warranty service and support for the Hamer product line. Customer Service will have full access to the list of finished goods, assemblies and parts to address customer requirements. We will support the Hamer brand, its products and related trademarks.

Might I add - the mentality is the same in the guitar hoarding collector world. Non-guitar playing, self indulgent, rich turds buy up the best vintage gear around and put it in a vault where no one sees it, and more importantly, no one plays or hears it. Again, capitalism at it's best. Let's keep the great American quality, skills and traditions alive. That doesn't happen putting all our investment in China, India... you get the idea. We are capable of greatness here. Look at Hamer!

The all powerful system of CAPITALISM. I'll bet you the fellow that is talking the praises of capitalism didn't lose anything. Anyone still affected by our grossly rich buddies in the banking business? That was the worst failure for their own benefit in recent history and we are all still paying for the inflated salaries and bonuses they collected! Why should Fender be any different?! They can kiss my a**! Buy AMERICAN, all the huge profits made by the greedy bankers was made by them selling us out to foreign companies. Thanks for nothing. Fender is a chicken s**t company for buying out Hamer then selling out.

Although I love Fender and the guitars that they make, I think that over the years, they have made some very stupid business decisions.

The soul of Hamer instruments was Jol Dantzig. Dantzig currently resides in Connecticut where he is the owner of Jol Dantzig Guitar Design. He'll build you "soul of a Hamer" guitar. Check them out.

Major strategic fail!! Maybe it wasn't profitable "as is" and but Hamer is their best brand to position as high-end Gibson-style segment which Fender has always struggled with, (i.e. anything with humbuckers and shorter scale length). I predict a "comeback" in a couple years if Fender gets back on their feet financially.

An unceremonious end to an iconic USA brand of guitars! Witness the natural progression of corporate skumbaggery...dilute, devalue and dismiss!! Fender more concerned with building their bullshyyt visitor center and catching up with Gibson for the doctor/lawyer/stockbroker business, while leaving working musicians with the imported crap! Isn't great to be an American!

This is the usual result when any company wants to buy out/own every other company out there. It usually ends up being more than they care to deal with, with the newly acquired company suffering staff cuts, product quality drop off, bs ideas by some higher-up to supposedly boost sales, that fail. Then, in the end total liquidation & closing of the company. I love Fender stuff, being a multi-Strat owner & player, but Fender needs to just focus & invest on Fender and stop taking on so many other "pet projects".

Shame, I always liked Vernon Reid's funky Hamer. I think he had a couple of custom Hamers. Damn shame, I guess Fender is the Bain Capital of the music world, buy em and strip them out.

Love my Hamer, it's a good all-round blues, jazz guitar, and it'll kick it as well, it's so free, just cool to play. I think it's up there with any Les Paul, Gretsch, very good feel to it. The configuration of the tone and volume control, particularly the toggle switch, I really like. It's a very comfortable guitar to play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YbbU8t6u Pg

As soon as I peel off this spandex and spiked wrist band I'm gonna fire off an angry letter to Fender. Just a little 80s metal joke there. Hamer made some nice gear as of late, too bad they got swallowed by the whale. RIP.
