Fender Announces New Blacktop Series Basses

Premier Guitar

The new Precision and Jazz basses deliver power and performance in bold interpretations of Fender’s time-honored titans, the Precision Bass and Jazz Bass.

Scottsdale, AZ (July 15, 2011) -- Fender introduces two new Blacktop series basses—the Blacktop Precision Bass and Blacktop Jazz Bass guitars. Both deliver power and performance in bold interpretations of Fender’s time-honored titans, the Precision Bass and Jazz Bass.

The Blacktop Precision Bass guitar features two Blacktop Bass humbucking pickups that make it one of the most powerful basses—if not the most powerful bass—Fender has ever offered. Other distinctive touches are three Jazz Bass control knobs (volume for each pickup and master tone) and a HiMass bridge. Features include an alder body, maple neck with modern C shape and gloss urethane finish, rosewood fretboard with 9.5” radius and 20 medium jumbo frets, three-ply black-white-black pickguard, open-gear tuners and chrome hardware.

The Blacktop Jazz Bass features dual Blacktop split-coil Precision Bass pickups that pack a powerful one-two tonal punch. Like its sibling, it too has an alder body, maple neck with modern C shape and gloss urethane finish, rosewood fretboard with 9.5” radius and 20 medium jumbo frets, three-ply black-white-black pickguard, three Jazz Bass control knobs, HiMass bridge, open-gear tuners and chrome hardware.

The Fender Blacktop series basses are available at authorized Fender dealers.
MSRP for both models: $699.99

Love this Blacktop Jazz with the black finish...A set of D'addario Chrome Flatwounds and this baby growls!! With the split P-Bass pickups it is awesome....I wish they had option of other colors or a maple neck... other then that I think it will be a classic in 10 years....

The Blacktop Pre is an excellent bass for feel, playability and tone. However, in their effort to make the bass affordable, Fender definitely cut some corners, most notably with the pick guard. Mine warped severely while outside for an hour in 75 degree temperatures. I was pretty pissed. Fender, c'mon....
