Finely crafted U.S.-made models are designed to be a new pinnacle for Fender production instruments

Scottsdale, AZ (January 3, 2012) — Fender is very proud to introduce its new top-of-the-production-line best: the Fender Select series. Designed as “Select instruments for select individuals,” the five guitars and two basses in the series are designed to be players’ instruments that put more than six decades of Fender experience and expertise on outstandingly appointed display and bring a wealth of high-end features and elegant design options to discerning musicians everywhere.

With choice tone woods, figured tops, strikingly beautiful finishes, figured and quartersawn maple necks with compound-radius fretboards, specially voiced Fender Select pickups that deliver masterful tone, and other first-rate features, the U.S.-made Select Series presents Fender’s finest selection.

Here's what Fender has to say about each model:

The Fender Select Stratocaster is the sonic embodiment of tone-machine elegance, featuring a stunning Dark Cherry Burst gloss-lacquer finish and natural binding on a sleek flame maple-top body. Its modern “C” shaped flame maple neck has a comfortable contoured heel, Bi-Flex truss rod system for rock-solid stability, a satin lacquer back finish and rear-headstock “Fender Select” medallion. Pure and singing signature sound comes from new Fender Select Stratocaster single-coil neck, middle and bridge pickups with five-way switching and a no-load tone control that delivers the natural uncolored sound of the bridge pickup when dimed. Other premium features include a three-ply pickguard (parchment-black-parchment), two-point synchronized tremolo bridge with vintage-style bent steel saddles, deluxe staggered cast/sealed locking tuners and nickel-chrome hardware. Why pay this price point, when you can pay the same for Custom Shop pieces? It won't last...

Cripes? Is all this negativity really necessary? I mean Fender is a company that offers guitars at every price point, what is there to complain about? ZZDOC, you rock, hope I get you in the ER when my ticker skips!

These are awesome!!! Glad to see Fender offer production-line instruments with nice woods to counter the upscale Suhr and PRS offerings.

Actually Larry....some of us 'rock/docs' were playing professionally in our 'teens about the time the first Strats, Jazzmasters, and Jaguars were built. One of my close friends and bandmates, whom I just lunched with Sunday past bought his '58 Strat new and I bought it from him several years later when the Jaguar was announced and he bought a white one along with a Dual Showman amp. I bought his Fender Concert. Van Halen's playing a promo gig at the Cafe WHA? in Greenwich Village tonite. Me and my guys did an 18 month stretch on that stage between Aug'64 and Feb '66 long before our boss Manny Roth's brother ever had an idea of a son named David Lee. When we left, in came a guy named Jimi. Ya never know whose out there.

These look nice. Fender has about 100 other models without "gawdy" flame-tops, if that isn't your thing.

I also think some of you are confusing MAP with MSRP. These are going to street for $2150 - about $500 more than the American Deluxe models.

Did they have to put flamed tops on every single one? I usually find flamed tops tops to be pretty gaudy, really. As for pricing, American Deluxe Strats have an MAP of $2,000, so these aren't going to be THAT much more on the street, I imagine. As for those commenting on Fender USA's quality in general, I think standard strats and tele's are very nice instruments, and are not wildly priced. The American Deluxe models are VERY nice instruments, although they should offer more pickup options. Also, it's not like Fender USA hasn't offered cheaper models lately. I agree that Fender should offer more color options on both standard and deluxe models, and on a regular basis. They add weird, unattractive colors and get stop making popular, nice colors quite often. I guess that's to steer people to the custom shop?

YES! This is just what we average guitar players need these days...yet another insanely over-built, insanely over-priced line of guitars. And here I thought Gibson and the boutique builders had this covered, but I guess Fender couldn't resist.

Those look great! I want one of those Select Teles...and, Ethan, I totally agree with you on the Strat Plus. I bought one new in '89, loved it, and I'd have had it to this day if I hadn't gotten a great deal on a Custom Shop Strat back in '92.
