Gibson Announces 7-String Explorer

Premier Guitar

The 7-string Explorer is styled for heavy rock.

Nashville, TN (November 6, 2009) -- Gibson has announced the release of their new 7-string Explorer model. The guitar features solid mahogany body with high-gloss ebony finish. The neck is mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard and 22 jumbo frets. The neck features no inlay, only side-dot position markers, which Gibson says is to, "preserve its mean, dark aesthetics." The 7-string Explorer comes with EMG 81-7 in the bridge and EM 707 in the neck. The guitar comes with a hardshell case and has an MSRP of $3339.

It's about 10 years too late for this, jeez. Who's at the wheel there in R&D?

Here's an idea. Post what YOU think Gibson should be producing.

Another sad attempt at price gouging on a guitar that should be a minimum of $2K less for what it is. What makes this different than the no-appointments $1399 Explorer besides the extra string and EMG's? Jeez, you can buy an Epiphone Goth Explorer all day for $399 and it's probably in the same league. Here we go again.

Look for this on clearance along with the holey V and the upside down V. And the Zoot Suit SG.

You know, if Gibson only knew how bad all of us guitar fans want them to be as great as they should be. But they just don't get it. Too bad.
