Gibson Announces Slash Appetite for Destruction Les Paul

Premier Guitar

The Appetite for Destruction Les Paul features "reverse chevron" figured maple, Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Slash pickups and vintage features.

Nashville, TN
(March 12, 2010) -- It's a big year for Slash gear, with new Seymour Duncan pickups released and a Marshall amp on the way. Now, Gibson has officially released the Appetite for Destruction Les Paul, designed after the guitar Slash played on the album.

The guitar features a Grade AAA "reverse-chevron" figured maple top with nitrocellulose "Unburst" finish, amber top-hat knobs, rosewood fingerboard with traditional trapezoid inlays, and Slash headstock graphic, a TonePros Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, and a high-density Corian nut. The neck is one-piece Grade A quarter-sawn mahogany with Slash's preferred slim ’60s profile,  12" fingerboard radius and 22 jumbo frets. The guitar is equipped with two Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Slash humbuckers.

The guitar comes with a hardshell case with silkscreen Slash graphic. MSRP $4728.

I have no issue with Gibson charging whatever they want; it is still a matter of being an informed buyer. Look at the Don Felder or Billy Gibbons Les Pauls. Both are fine players! But the differences between both guitars are no more than the ones between two othe Pauls from the same year etc. I have played and owned vintage stuff. Most of the players now who talk about wanting vintage tone have never played a 50's Fender or Gibson. I have. But most of the tones they say they are after are from recordings that have studio compressors added to them as well as the variances in mike types and placements. Simply buy a guitar that you can afford, get a good set up and learn how to play it! Tone is in the hands! I once had a 1979 Goldtop Les Paul Std. and it blew away my friends 1958! In tone and feel! He was not happy! Of course then his guitar was only worth a grand or so. I own a PRS Custom 24, American Teles, Strats etc. But out of all the Les Pauls I ever owned, vintage and new, the best tone from a Gibson was an Explorer! So again look to find good gear not worry about what famous guys use. They would sound the same no matter what they used.

In regards to Carvin products. I have a Vintage 16 combo amp. I love it. I wish it had switchable speaker outs. I'd like to see Carvin make a vintage 16 head. I also bought the last MTS 3200. They no longer make them.

For all of you that are interested, the guitar is on sale at GC (not a fan of) for $2837.00 ($US). More suprisingly, they are offering 15% off anything above $299 (this weekend only), so you do the math. The coupon code is GREEN (and no I do not work for GC, Music123, MF, or any of those places). Just trying to save some good folks some dough.

Populist, simplistic, Class Envy, drivel. These "comment" areas on the web have become nothing more than a place for the uninformed and musically challenged.
Do you really play guitar, REALLY, SERIOUSLY, PLAY GUITAR?
Have you ever owned a REAL guitar? How many?
Let's all go out and pick up a bunch of Samick, they're just as good and, oh yes, if I save my allowance I can afford one. When I come back from my next trip to Asia, I'll bring you a bunch of $30 Rolex watches. They're JUST AS GOOD.
And let's get Gibson, Martin, and any other American manufacturer to crash. America doesn't need to jobs. Screw those guys that sweat in a wood shop all day, they have better jobs than me anyway and that isn't fair.

I would love one of these they just look cool and i bet they play and sound great, but theres no way in hell i'm going to pay that kind of money for a guitar!hell the average joe can't afford that shit with kids a mortgage a wife that i'd like to stick around for a while longer.i guess if your a rich rock star you could afford one,but for me all i can afford is my gibson invader i bought over twenty years ago and a couple of other guitars.

Can someone explain to me what exactly an "unburst" finish is? And how many thousands extra is that? Buy a Carvin, a Hamer, or hell, a Samick for that matter! Let Gibson die it's slow agonizing death. It's given up on itself, so why should we care.

Wow, I can't believe all the whiners. Didn't your mothers ever teach you guy.....If you can't say something nice, dont say anything? Slash asked Gibson to make the guitar due to fans asking him. Gibson is in the business of making guitars to make money, so they agreed. Not rocket science gang. The guitar is almost completely sold out across North America. So obviously, it's what people want. I paid considerably under list price for the 2 I pre-purchased, and was pleasantly surprised that an artist guitar was so well priced, especially with that kind of maple top. Good Job Gibson & Slash

Gibson FTW! They will even sell vital organs of their own mother in order to make money... even making a replica of guitar history's most famous Les Paul copy! They surely have a lot of nerve to face all this irony... and it doesn't even remotely look like the real one - what were they thinking? Let me guess, another idea by the guy who came up with the Hendrix flop...
