Gibson Previews New Dusk Tiger Guitar

Premier Guitar

The Dusk Tiger is the next step in the Dark Fire line, featuring tiger-styled looks and a more affordable price tag.

Nashville, TN
(November 16, 2009) -- Gibson has announced their latest in a flurry of bizarre product development this fall, the Dusk Tiger. The Dusk Tiger shares features with the Dark Fire, along with a strikingly unique look that has already polarized users of the Gibson website.

Calling it, "simply the most astounding innovation in the history of the guitar," Gibson unveiled details on Friday afternoon, spurring 40 largely skeptical comments from readers. We've embedded them below, in case they mysteriously disappear from the actual website (like we witnessed recently with the Gibson Jimi Hendrix Strat "release"). Here's what Gibson had to say about the instrument:
"In the wake of Gibson’s groundbreaking Dark Fire, the new Dusk Tiger offers an unprecedented wealth of features to expand your sonic horizons exponentially, yet it brings them to you with greatly increased levels of performance and ease of use, and all at a more affordable price. And not only does Dusk Tiger offer an awe-inspiring versatility of tone and playability, it also captures a stunning new look that is arguably more refined than anything Gibson has ever produced.

It retains the general Les Paul-inspired body lines, but presents them in a guitar with a flat top made from an exotic hardwood beaming with golden, amber, and dark chocolate hues. This top is coupled with a tone-chambered back, and a unique new pickguard and control layout. Under the hood, the Dusk Tiger reveals countless new features that give it even more power, along with considerable upgrades and improvements of existing electronics and control systems, and an unlimited number of sound possibilities.

New to the Dusk Tiger are:
* Programmable active four-band parametric EQ systems for both the magnetic and the piezo pickups, which allow infinite fine tuning of your tone
* Switchable LP-Z High Definition Impedance circuit (low impedance capabilities) built into improved Neutrick jack with both ¼” and XLR outputs
* And much, much more…
Craig Anderton on Harmony Central's forums provided additional photos and information on the guitar, stating that it features more streamlined electronics tweaked for different sounds than the original Dark Fire. Pricing information has not been released, but Gibson's language says it is a "more affordable price."

Here's a taste of what some of Gibson's readers have to say so far:

I like the idea of EQ, low impedance cable connector, tone chambers, and piezo pickup. The look is shocking but I'm always looking for something different. I want to test play this guitar.

Only Gibson I ever liked only had two knobs!! This looks like a remake of an old Teisco from the '60's. Gibson is trying their best to be modern and slick, but this doesn't cut it. They should stick to refining the products they have and maybe try to include the new electronics at an afforable price.ESP,Godin,Fender, and others are doing just that and seem to be succeeding during our nations' financial crisis.

I own a 2008 Metallic Red Robot Les Paul, it is stunning. You cannot tell its a robot guitar from the front. I want the updated electronics of this model. Gibson is selling a 1000 of these, I heard. I look forward to Gibson updating my guitar with a similar package electronics. There are 10's of 1000's of ROBOT GUITAR owners waiting with cash in hand, to update to this current technology. You can love or hate the individual guitar, but this technology is awesome

Who at Gibson had the idea to make the back of a guitar look better than the front?? Stop reinventing the wheel Gibson, make Gibson and Epiphone models that people can afford, that would put the counterfiet market that you're so worried about out of business.

>> Gibson's language says it is a "more affordable price." Which is Gibsonese for we aren't going to try to overcharge for mediocrity as much as Henry would like.

Maybe it will be like the ugly chick in bed, when the lights go down, maybe she'll sing like savant. Does Gibson do any test marketing at all? Hey Gibson if you need a volunteer, I might be available. Who knows?
