Gibson reprises Jett's 2008 signature model with "Blackheart" finish and inlay

Nashville, TN (March 18, 2010) -- In anticipation of the forthcoming film release The Runaways and her recent release of the Joan Jett and The Blackhearts Greatest Hits album, Gibson Guitar has announced the launch of the Joan Jett “Blackheart” Melody Maker. Gibson released a white Joan Jett signature Melody Maker in 2008. The “Blackheart” Melody Maker will be available beginning March 19th.

“I needed a black guitar. This guitar has the same body and the neck runs smooth as silk, “ said Joan Jett. “ I wanted some flash of color, so the fret inlays are bright red, and the 12th fret is marked by mother of pearl inlay hearts lying end to end. I am using it onstage now, and it sounds ferocious. But of course, she can play gentle as well. Just like the earlier white Joan Jett Gibson model, it is a great guitar for anybody.”

The guitar features a mahogany body and neck with an ebony fingerboard. The single pickup is a Zebra Coil Burst Bucker 3. MSRP $1533.

I agree that Gibson makes some outrageously priced instruments; however, inflation is always a factor to consider when comparing instruments over time. A 1959 Les Paul originally sold for about $280. Today, that $280 would be worth about $2,040, about the same price of a new Les Paul Standard Traditional model.

The 7 string Explorer is one of the few things Gibson have gotten right lately even if it has hit the market 20 years too late.
Apart from the price those pink dots and hearts on the fingerboard are deal breakers for me, this is a cheap guitar made to look even cheaper yet having a higher price tag.

I think Gibson Company should rethink it's employee wages, management wages, and cost overhead, so someone besides a millionair can afford to purchase one of their guitars. At these prices I don't see this company in business 10 years from now.

Gibson Gibson Gibson.... I give up. $1500 for a reissue of a reissue of a reissue of one of your cheapest guitars you have ever made. Have you no shame?

Not bad price for a now-a-days Gibson, but c'mon! If it plays like it was 20-30 years old, might be worth the money. At least it's not a few grand like most of Gib's sig axes. Still, as lefty. lane, sam, and the others say, why pay through the nose? I bought an Artcore 73, put on a couple of Seymours and ya'know? Great sounding ax. Feels great, too. Make your own legend. Play and earn it. It's like aguy who buys a PT Cruiser, puts some flames on it, and takes it to a car show. Bo-o-o-o-gus!!!

You guys are right!
Japanese brand could make better quality guitar with less than half price.
It's a ripoff, i feel.
Gibson guitars are over priced anyway. (Not 20 years ago)
What can we buy?
