Gibson Reveals Full Dusk Tiger Details

Premier Guitar

The next generation of Gibson's robot technologies represents the state of the art in electric guitars

Nashville, TN (December 4, 2009) -- Three weeks after posting an advance look on their website, Gibson has revealed full details on their latest technological endeavor: the Dusk Tiger. Here's what Gibson had to say about the instrument:
A killer guitar with a look and construction that has never been seen before. Dusk Tiger represents the state of the art in electric guitars, redefining what the guitar can do with the integration of pioneering technology with the most advanced design in the industry, all in a Limited Edition package with only 1,000 sold worldwide.

Unparalleled Tonal Flexibility
With a tonal flexibility that is unmatched by any other, Dusk Tiger keeps 100 percent of the purity of tone realized through analog technology, and also expands on Dark Fire’s tones by offering ultra-low-noise, programmable on-board multiband EQ controlled by flexible editing software.

Optimized For Stage and Studio
Dusk Tiger is the perfect guitar both on stage and in the studio. The combination of magnetic and piezo pickups gives traditional and more “acoustic” guitar tones, while separate outputs for each string allow you to create sounds from classic to beyond futuristic. Add to that a multichannel FireWire interface and Ableton Live 8 and your possibilities are unlimited.

Exceptional Ease Of Use
All the tones and the 18 user-programmable alternate tunings (featuring third-generation Robot Tuning Technology) are easily accessible through a streamlined, stage-friendly interface, designed for ease of use and inspired by intensive focus groups with leading guitarists.

A History Of Continued Refinement
Technological advancements in design allow for lower current consumption, unprecedented reliability, and the use of common camera batteries that can be replaced in seconds – and offer much longer battery life. What's more, these refinements have led to reduced manufacturing costs, making Dusk Tiger the most affordable high-tech guitar yet.

Smoothly Playable
Ultimately, Dusk Tiger is a beautiful, smoothly playable guitar. It recalls the time-honored Les Paul body lines, but presents them in a guitar with a flat top (coupled to a tone-chambered back) made from exotic hardwood covered with golden, amber, and dark chocolate hues, and accented by a unique new pickguard and control layout. Dusk Tiger is set up using advanced Plek technology to insure uniform feel and extreme playability.

The World's Most Advanced Guitar
Dusk Tiger reflects Gibson’s commitment to stretching the boundaries of the electric guitar, while honoring the elements that make classic guitars so desirable in the first place, bringing you simply the most astonishing innovation in the history of the guitar.

Remember that episode of "The Simpsons" in which Homer designed a car? Looks like real-life just imitated a cartoon.

Looks like a Vulcan bad dream! Gibson's HAD class. Best looking instruments they make are over 60 years old in design - 335 and Les Paul Standard. I know this ax needs to be played, etc., but w/ all the cool pedals we have now, a rock musician can get by w/ whatever feels best. So, I feel that the axes that were designed a half century ago, Tele, Strat, Les Paul, and 335, are still the best of the bunch. And for C&W, Tele, Strat, and Gretsch. That's my opinion.

Gibson is clearly run by morons. Guitar players are conservative about gear. They want analog guitars with old fashioned alnico magnets. The Robot guitar was a failure, and this one will be too. Whoever is running Gibson needs to be canned. What a waste of R&D money.

I think we need to play the robotar before we judge it. The only problem with that is who can afford even the test drive?

Hey for all you haters - welcome to the real world. Gibson is a big corporation that exists because of innovation and growth. This is what they do - they rollout new products...some take some don't. I'm sure you all know that Les Paul was originally rebuffed by Gibson until Fender showed electrics had potential...I'm not saying this particular product will succeed but face it - computers are here to stay and eventually they will be a part of many guitars. Unlike many here I am whatever gets me the sound I am looking for at the time. I recently left a band because the leader couldn't take the fact I liked my acoustic/electric...no newfangled stuff for him! I say play it, listen to it...THEN develop a strong opinion.

Cool. Yet I can't shake the feeling that the huge costs involved in research and development of these hi-tech. "modern wonders" that only a few people will even be able to use much less afford will be paid by those of us for whom a studio or traditional more than fits our needs. Gibson must not have anyone on the staff who took or studied economics. We are in a HUGE recession, Gibson! We are in a HUGELY inflated economy, Gibson. You are one of Americas' oldest and remaining FEW manufacturers! Wake up and start paying attention to what's happening in THE REAL WORLD. Pushing the envelope and making new developments is fine as long as you don't pass the price of that onto lifelong, loyal customers who just want the basic built with real quality and craftsmanship and then stand behind your product with quality customer support and service. Please don't run this historically great company into the ground! I hope you realize that you are. I hope you wake up before Gibson is just another name used by a foreign company to sell crap!

Because we LOVE the classic Gibson stuff. We want new iterations of these, with new prices. Give us what we love about this company and THEN show us some new stuff.

I think it looks interesting. Why are people so quick to judge what they haven't held in their hands and played yet?
