Gibson Unveils Alex Lifeson Signature Les Paul Axcess

In addition to its traditional Les Paul tonewoods, the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess carries two high-output humbucking pickups with series/parallel options on its push-pull volume controls, and a Floyd Rose licensed unit loaded with GraphTech Ghost piezo bridge saddles.

Nashville, TN (March 1, 2011) -- Created through extensive work with Alex Lifeson himself, the Gibson Custom Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess carries all of the traditional tones that have made the Les Paul legendary, along with unprecedented levels of sonic and performance versatility.

Access traditional Gibson magnetic humbucker tones, mix it up with fat and funky series/parallel options, tap the Ghost's realistic acoustic tones, or blend acoustic and magnetic voices. What’s more, you can route it all through a traditional mono jack (labeled "Regular") using a single guitar cable, or use two cables to split the signal into separate output paths using the "Regular" and the "Life-O-Sound" output jacks together.

The Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess is available in your choice of two stunning colors—Viceroy Brown and Royal Crimson—both approved by the artist himself. The first 50 guitars in this special run (25 in each finish) will be signed by the artist himself, with unsigned models to follow.

Features:
* One-piece mahogany back with figured maple top
* Push-pull volume pots for series/parallel wiring
* 496R/498T humbucking pickups with dual output jacks
* Graphtech Ghost piezo system-equipped Floyd Rose tremolo
* Vintage Kluson-style tuners with pearloid keystone buttons
* MSRP $6115 or $9174 (signed)

Cygnus X-1 to Gibson.... Cygnus X-1 to Gibson... you're Losing It! You are Losing Control... you are Losing Control... You are Losing Control...
Yeah, I know it's a 'custom shop' les paul with a few days here or there spent talking with Alex, but even if I DID have the cash, I simply would not buy your guitars at these prices. And then another $3000. to stencil 'Alex Lifeson' on the outside of the guitar case (made out of plywood you purchase at Home Depot for $20 bucks... wooo! Scary high price THERE!)
Folks - you want this guitar? Do what I did... get an 'Epiphone Les Paul Plus Top Pro FX' (yes, it includes the very nice Floyd Rose floating tremelo system with locking nut and Grover tuners and overwound Alnico/bridge/P.U. and coil taps and bound neck and... and... and...) Oh, I also bought the form-fitted leather hardshell case (read: no plywood).

How much did the guitar and deluxe case cost me? $900.00 out-the-door. And my g/f purchased a big thick gold art ink pen, and wrote MY name on the case. Cost of pen: $12.00 art store (Michael's Arts and Crafts). She said that she wanted, for a shallow joke, to order custom guitar picks with my name printed on them, to toss out to the 'crowd'. Ha.Ha. I told her no, as I live in Buffalo NY, and I am just another average guitarist.
I know GOOD TONE. I also know GREED. Be careful Gibson - your own 'cheaper' Subdivision of Epiphone might be That Darn Dragon worth Driven after... the tone is just as good as your new Alex Lifeson Signature Series Les Paul. I did a A/B comparison. Sheesh indeed.

Secondly, get your off-shore factories outa China and bring 'em back home. And, sure... I'd still purchase the same Epi even if it cost more.

(you can see pics and info about the Epiphone.. just google it, or go check it out at sam ash web site.)

666johnyboy In Ireland, your Gibson dealers in both Dublin and Belfast can order you one ( or even two ) so don't worry...But somehow, I think you are dreaming....Man, that is sad. Stick with Epiphone, I think THAT is more in your price-range. Anyhow, back in the real world, moving on to the guitar, it's poorly built to current usual modern Gibson standards, and has purely been made as a "cash-cow" for the mugs that can afford it. ( Who are usually non-players! ) Eg; Just take a look at the double-jack on the side, they couldn't even get that in straight! It looks "pissed" Shame on you Gibson, just trading garbage, on a past glorius name. And Lifeson should be ashamed for taking part in it! An extra $3000 just for his signiture? You guys are sick! Sad you need the money that badly. I wouldn't have a new Gibson FREE! Well perhaps only to smash it, or sell it on to someone that doesn't know any better, like some of you here...

I just bought an Epiphone 1960 les paul reissue. It plays so nice, let me tell you! Comparing it to a gibson via an Egnater amp; it`s hard to tell a difference. ....And the price was right.

Gibsons are massively over-priced (sorry, there's no room for argument here). It's actually a bit embarrassing. I'm a huge Rush fan and play guitar for a living, but i'd never spend such an unseemly amount of cash on one of these.

I love Rush, Alexs' playing inspired me to P/U the guitar. It seems these new Custom Shop Guitars are for collection purposes only, who is going to take a $9K or a $6K guitar to the local roadhouse gig and play it? Why does the custom shop even make these guitars with all the upgrades as I doubt they will even be used? Just have Alex sign some Les Paul Traditionals and mark em up to $2500.00, still make a profit and sell a whole bunch of them.

You know I love Alex Lifeson, great player, performer. I saw him this last tour with these style guitars. He sounds great. The bad news is the pricing. Gibson is way over the top. Of course it plays and sounds great. Nearly every axe in that price point does. Other than the floyd this is nothing more than a hot-rodded LP.

Around $3600 street which is in line with the axcess line. So comparison wise-it's a better deal than a regular axcess. Huge fan of the Axcess. They should have trashcanned the fireturdX and made the axcess the next gen gibson. Floyd optional.

Lets start with the bashing. These guitars are not worth that much money. You get a used car for that! I do understand its quality builds and a small production runs, but still many Amps and Guitars are hilariously overpriced. Get real people. Oh and lovely finishes indeed :)

I am not a Gibson fan, but this is a beautiful instrument, and I would love to try it out. Still, for the money I think most folks would do better going elsewhere. My main guitar has been a Carvin for years and for just as many years a lot of people have been amazed by the quality of the workmanship and the stunning tone it has. When I tell them how much-or how little-I paid they usually drop their jaws. Gibson has a rich history, and that is great for some folks, but I feel they are pricing themselves right out of the market in most cases. If you are willing to patiently shop around you can find very fine instruments at a considerable savings. It just depends on how important branding is to you. I personally find playability and tone, coupled with a great price, to be far more attractive. When I play my favorite recordings of my favorite artists I could care less what brand of guitar they are playing. I just want the song to sound right.
