Guild Introduces the Doyle Dykes Signature Guitar

Crafted to Dykes’ exacting specifications, the cutaway grand orchestra guitar delivers a rich, full and balanced sound that will please the most discerning guitarist.

Scottsdale, AZ (Oct. 25, 2012) – Guild is excited to honor fingerstyle guitar virtuoso Doyle Dykes with his own signature guitar, the Guild Doyle Dykes Signature Model. The guitar is the result of an extensive collaboration among Dykes, master luthier Ren Ferguson, and the team at Guild’s New Hartford, Connecticut, factory.

Crafted to Dykes’ exacting specifications, the cutaway grand orchestra guitar delivers a rich, full and balanced sound that will please the most discerning guitarist. It’s an incredibly articulate instrument with truly stunning headroom and dynamic range.

"When I saw the guitar for the first time, I saw reflections of my life and relationships," said Dykes. "The Duane Eddy vintage-style 'G' on the headstock, the Chet Atkins-style fret markers, the beautiful roses on the bridge that depict a heartfelt family story, and the Guild name have all been a part of my life since I was a boy."

With an abalone-trimmed AAA-grade red spruce top and AAA quilt big-leaf maple neck back and sides, the guitar looks as amazing as it sounds. The dark-tinted top imparts an aged look, and the 20-fret ebony fingerboard and abalone-inlaid bridge contribute to a distinctively elegant appearance.

"I was immediately at home with this guitar," Dykes said. "After playing it and hearing it, I'm convinced a lot of people will feel this way, too. This is your grandfather's guitar and a whole lot more!"

Other special features include custom D-55-style abalone/mother-of-pearl fret markers rotated 90 degrees and located on the bass side of the fingerboard, a slightly shallower body than that of the standard F-47 grand orchestra on which the model is based, scalloped red spruce bracing, abalone rosette, three-piece mahogany neck with rosewood center, 12" fingerboard radius, stylized Guild "G" headstock overlay, extra tuner spacing to accommodate Dykes’ signature behind-the-nut string bends, bone nut and saddle, and a pure gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish.

Each Doyle Dykes Signature Model comes with a dark brown hard-shell case lined with dark-green plush.

The Doyle Dykes Signature Model is expected to be available in December through authorized Guild dealers for a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $5000.00.

To those who would make comparisons regarding just who is the greatest guitarist..these fellows Tommy, Doyle, Richard Smith, Steven King, et al...each have their own unique gifts to share with us...to suggest that there is a 'best'...well Chet's not around to hand out his CGP awards any longer, but even so..they would all have them if he were, and in spirit...I believe they all do.

Tim, I have had the privilege of meeting and hearing them both. They are both tremendous people as well as tremendous artist. I can't imagine either saying anything negative about the other.

Doyle got a better deal from Fender than Taylor. As a taylor rep - clinician - recipient of Taylor paychecks and freebees for years, it's all about the money after all.

By the way, he's great but certainly not the best Joe. Unless of course you've never heard of Tommy Emmanuel ?

In answer to max, I have heard that it was not out of any disatisfaction with Taylor. Guild ( that is: the Fender Corp. ) wanted a high profile, virtuoso guitar player to show that their acoustics were as good as any acoustic guitars out there. You just can't find a better fingerstyle player than Doyle!
